I keep reading stuff in the DF wiki and going like "oh I've been doing this for RP reasons but mechanically it's actually really dumb and I would have a less risky game if I did it a different way"
The description of altars in the game Dwarf Fortress, with "currently serve no purpose" highlighted:

Altars, also known as Offering Places, are a furniture item optionally used in temples. They can be placed with [series of keys], though they currently serve no purpose other than increasing a room's value and decoration, as temples don't require them to function.

In fortress mode, altars can be made from most materials like wood, stone, glass, and metal at their respective workshops. Altars can be stored in furniture stockpiles, and fall in the "other large tools" item type category.

Altars are extremely lightweight compared to other "furniture" (1/20 to 1/60 the weight) with the same base value, and so make excellent trade items to produce. Dwarves have been known to place skulls on altars.

In adventure mode, you can often find dice that can be rolled on altars.

A dwarf that knocks over an altar within a dedicated temple, during a tantrum or otherwise, will be cursed by that temple's deity with a random were-curse (as long as they are a believer of that deity). There is no cure. The player will receive a pop-up notification stating that the god has cursed their dwarf, and that dwarf will transform into a hostile beast during the next full moon.

come on national if you can rush through dogshit under 16 bans before the election you can cut labour's policy legs from under them
Greens' Teanau Tuiono said: "We welcome the policy, we think having solar is good for the country as well.

"And just to note that we offered our 15 votes to actually get this sort of initiative moving earlier - so that offer is still there, why wait for the election? We could get it on next week."

the bugzilla experience: comment on a fairly new bug 9 years ago, it sits ignored for nearly a decade, and then is closed wontfix because someone 6 years prior made a remark about a different browser feature that no longer exists. even better, you can't protest because you can't comment on old bugs.
a fairly anodyne bug report against firefox explaining that it's surprising that you can accidentally close pinned tabs using the middle mouse button, while you can't do the same using Ctrl-W. my own comment is also present. this was filed 9 years, all comments within weeks.two comments, one from 23 hours ago and one from 39 minutes ago, referencing a different issue and using it as justification for closing the bug as wontfixthe referenced comment, which is on a feature called "App Tabs", which existed 15 years ago. Someone who no longer work at mozilla summarises a conversation and says the consensus seems to be that middle click is different from Ctrl-W because you can't mash the mouse, and anyway only power-users use middle click.since the first bug was closed, I apparently "need permission" to comment on it. well, guess what,

It's incomprehensible. If it's too dangerous for kayaking, abseiling will be miserable at best, and caving will be (and was) deadly. This is "disqualified from ever being in charge of this kind of decision" bad judgement at the least. They didn't know how to read a weather map??? FIRED INTO THE SUN
One of [the responsible person's supervisor's] recommendations to the coroner was that all outdoor education facilitators sit a course with MetService to understand weather map reading.

Félix @passcod.nz · 03/05/2026
What?! Insane statement.
As they kept an eye on the weather in the seven days before the trip, the original kayaking event was changed to abseiling, and then to caving.

The witness who took the stand today said it was changed because they knew it would be raining and they felt caving would be more appropriate, as it would keep the students out of the elements

Can confirm that there is planning -- not yet approved -- to potentially send a few thousand soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division to Iran, per two officials.

This comes after @WashingtonPost first reported earlier this month that the HQ of the 82nd Airborne had abruptly canceled a training exercise, fueling internal speculation it could be involved in any ground operation President Trump approves.
