Graham @parishrecluse.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Came home from dinner to find the house smelled of gas. Called the gas company. Something on the hot water heater is leaking, so he shut off the gas to it. I wanted to make some bran muffins but didn’t want to waste hot water on washing up (hoping enough left for a shower tomorrow morning). 100

Graham @parishrecluse.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Growing up, I never really liked apples. McIntosh were acceptable, but Red Delicious, which in the ‘80s and ‘90s were at times all you could find in a small supermarket, are like cardboard. A couple of years ago, a colleague turned me on to an old cultivar called the Jonathan. Love at first taste. 230

Graham @parishrecluse.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Eleven years ago, I jotted down the first few bars of a nocturne that I wanted to write in the style of the Irish composer John Field (1782-1837), who invented the form. Like most of my compositions, I never finished it. 171
Graham @parishrecluse.bsky.social · 06/09/2026This is the problem with America: It is so car-bound. People always talk about age limits for elderly drivers, but those still in their own homes would starve if they didn’t keep driving. 020
