Very true. My main (non-secure) backups are all HDDs that I keep simple mirrors of files on, requiring no intermediary software to access, and are air-gapped when not being updated.

I've been updating my backup procedures lately. I had a scare when a hard drive died on me. Fortunately it was just my installed games and programs drive, so no actual data loss. It caused me no end of anxiety until I was able to get a device to recognise and reinitialise the drive though.

Variability in circadian rhythms is adaptive on a population level and human-made systems that don't account for it is the real disorder. Any individual should not hesitate to seek what accommodations they can get, but it shouldn't be necessary if we weren't subjugated to capitalist oligarchs.

People who can, on some level, perceive that the ship they are on is sinking, but feel compelled by sunk costs to stay on board no matter what become very susceptible to catastrophising in other ways. It's a weird form of cope from the outside, but it's a very human response.

The bad news is that, despite our refusal to admit it, emotional trauma can totally fuck up cognitive function too, and we live in a culture designed to induce that trauma. It's not a majority, and it still isn't enough to win in a fair election. But it's still a lot of people, and dangerous.

Just my limited exposure to that antisemitism royal commission makes my skin crawl. I'm not saying that the problem would go away if Australia fully boycotted and sanctioned Israel, but it would have a larger effect than anything a royal commission could reasonably recommend.
