Introducing Strappy! He is one of my OCs, who is a Pingy (one of my own fantasy species). He is based on a Chinstrap Penguin. ❤️🐧 Strappy is shy, nervous and a little clumsy. He usually only approaches humanoids he trusts (normally only during hand feeding times). #penguin #penguinart

Here's the #penguinpicoftheday, #PPOTD, this time of Adélie penguins at Cape Crozier, located at the eastern end of Ross Island, southern Ross Sea. This place is so special, with hundreds of thousands of birds. You can see how far back the colony stretches, it feels like it goes on forever. 🧪🌎🦑🦉

Adelie penguin colony at Cape Crozier, a few penguins close to the camera, and you can see the colony stretching for more than a kilometer up the hill. A skua surveys the colony in the distance.

Chinstrap penguin glaring into the camera is the #penguinpicoftheday #PPOTD and did you know that they get their beauty rest (11 hours a day!) by nodding off in 4-second intervals... 10,000 times. I mean that's champion power napping. 🧪🌍🦑🦉

"In the wild when one penguin dies and their partner doesn’t know what has happened, they will typically go searching for them... Magic was taken to Sphen, alongside the gentoo colony. Magic immediately started singing, with all the penguins around him joining in the chorus."

Congratulations to the hoiho on winning New Zealand's Bird of the Year. Here's one I got to see in Curio Bay in 2013

Endemic yellow-eyed penguin was chosen Bird of the Year in New Zealand. The endangered "people's penguin" goes by another, rather more boisterous name: hoiho. www.birdoftheyear.org.nz 🧪 🪶🐧

Quick #penguin doodle for @animalalphabets.bsky.social K... King Penguin. At first I thought they were referring to the Emperor Penguin, and maybe they just called them that in the UK, but the King Penguin is a thing. #inktober #inktober2024
