So you take out a microscope to look through the shit polish and see what's going on inside. Just for the hell of it, looking for round bubbles and curved striae. Maybe it's a flame-fusion. This is what you see. Flattened, angular, irregular inclusions. Do you stop here? What do you do next?

So you assume ADR, and it's after 4 so "ADR" currently means "anomalous double refraction." Throw a quartz under crossed polars next to it. It's not patchy, and the damn things blink at the same frequency. So you put it under darkfield. Looks like this. Either poor polish or full of rutile or both.
