“The question is no longer whether we transition away from fossil fuels, but how.” In Bonn, @nataliejones.bsky.social called for a science-led global roadmap, country-led national plans, aligned finance and a clear path through future COPs. Watch 👇

Santa Marta demonstrated how first mover countries are implementing a transition away from fossil fuels. As Bonn talks continue, @paoyanguas.bsky.social emphasizes predictable signals from UNFCCC processes can provide a lifeline for national actors facing domestic headwinds to maintain momentum.

At Bonn (#SB64), the UNFCCC faces its first major test in a post-Santa Marta world. Climate negotiators must navigate growing pressure to turn commitments into implementation & a increasingly complex geopolitical environment. Here’s what you need to know: bit.ly/49L97hU
A large conference room with curved seating is filled with people attending a meeting. The room features the United Nations Climate Change Conference emblem prominently on the wall. The text on the image reads: "Inside the 2026 Bonn Climate Meetings: Key issues to watch as negotiators meet for the 64th sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC." The IISD logo is in the corner.

Climate policy is often framed as incentives or bans. But evidence from Switzerland’s heating sector points to a smarter middle path: quasi-bans. New piece from @paoyanguas.bsky.social & @jmarkard.bsky.social sets out what can be gained from this approach👇 www.sussex.ac.uk/research/pro...
