iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Man, the weather headache from the edges of the tropical storm down south is definitely hitting this weekend 😑

020

There's also a bunch of stuff that doesn't unlock until you level-grind in each sector of the city. I've noticed there are a few different ways they artificially slow your progress — enough of them that usually any one thing (like enemies in a place being over-leveled) usually isn't TOO obvious.

000

Yeah, they definitely don't want you to rush thru the game. Not just for the sake of making the game take long enough to feel "worth it", but also because... wandering around & doing random side stuff is how you end up exploring & finding so much of the lore & secrets.

100

I think it WAS independent enough to declare that it exists in "international waters" as far as jurisdiction is concerned. At least, that's my thinking/impression. I honestly need to rewatch the season; I haven't watched any of it since my first viewing when it was released earlier in the year.

010

The base definitely wasn't big or populous enough to try to declare full independence in season 4, but it would have shriveled up & died if the asteroid bypassed it. So like... season 5 is after the colony has grown for a decade & it's actually getting to the point of being strong enough.

I think it was more immediate that they just needed to irretrievably keep the asteroid from going to Earth, because that would have precluded whatever plans/direction/momentum that would happen in the future.

It's a bit better at this than the first Control was; tbh, I tended to mostly just ignore Control's recurring random pop-up alerts in favor of the Board Countermeasures, unless I accidentally happened to run into the area where the event was occurring.

Really appreciating that Control Resonant has so much side mission (& often actual side-story) stuff constantly appearing, so if I get frustrated on a story mission I can just go "do stuff" for a while.

Disgusted! Reached to the back of the shelf to get icing sugar at my local store and got bitten by a beastly rodent! I’ll be reporting this to the health inspectors at once!

I had totally forgotten that the Invid had those quadrupedal "Hellcat" robots. (I had to look up what their actual name was, it had been so long, lol).

Irina? Yes, you will find out what happened to her. That's all I'll say 😅 Incidentally, she's also one of the main characters in Star City. (Well, a much younger version of her, played by a different actress.)

210

Yeah, that's one of the scenes I specifically have in mind when I think about them keeping the "option" of killing off a main character, because it would have been easy. (I knew they wouldn't have wanted to, but if Krys Marshall hadn't been able to renew her contract for some reason...? Who knows?)

Ugh, it's one of the robo cab ones. I've started seeing them around NoVA, too 😑

Subsequently, Bit Bakery at Pop-Up District (Eden Center). I wanted the yakgwa cookie, but they were out, so I ended up getting the salt bread with injeolmi cream stuff (which was fantastic).

An oblong piece of bread with large/coarse chunks of salt stuck to it, split open & filled with off-white cream stuff.

Closeup of menu board/screen. "SALT BREAD" — "BLACK SESAME" & "SSUK INJEOLMI".

Friday Day Off Self-Care included an apple crêpe with caramel.

A plate with a folded crêpe topped with thin apple pieces & a large blob of whipped cream, drizzled with caramel, on it. The plate has the words "LITTLE FALLS CRÊPERIE" printed around the edge.

A restaurant bay window with a bunch of random "spooky" Halloween stuff crammed into it.

One of my favorite Evangelion UIs has gotta be the "steering wheel" interface for the weird heavily-modified version of Unit-08 with the heavy crane(?) arms mounted on a ring around its body, that Mari operates like she's backing up a car.

I think what frightens me most is that the sheer volume of things to be horrified by has become its own kind of protection for the people responsible. Nothing has to be explained or resolved becuase a story or a scandal or a tragedy only has to survive until the next thing happens in five minutes.

Also, 3) I intentionally got an expensive ruggedized phone so I'd never have to worry about dropping it or breaking the screen & wouldn't have to get a new one for as long as possible, so now the phone is several years old but still works fine & I never even unwrapped the spare battery it came with.

030

I could probably just not update the apps, but having un-updated apps hanging around tends to cause my phone to have weird system stability issues. And I have no idea if there's a way to stop the car itself from updating.

010

2) It says both "will no longer be supported" & "will stop working". Which tells me that nothing will physically stop me from continuing to try to use it with the older app, except that they will probably give the app a final update that will intentionally MAKE it stop working. Because: Fuck you.

130

This bothers me for a couple of reasons, namely: 1) wtf does "soon" mean? Would it kill them to tell me how much time I have, even ballpark?

I actually finally saw some chips in the black-&-white Calbee packaging. Probably for the only time, since they stopped doing them. For now.

Bags of Calbee potato chips in weird/uncharacteristic packaging that lacks any colored pigments; the entire bag design is done in silver, black, & white. This line of products was released several months ago, when the Iran war caused a bunch of the petroleum-based chemicals in the inks normally used for printing the chip bags to become unusually scarce & expensive.

Also I visited Walmart today and it looks like the digital dynamic pricing is going *great*

Digital price tag for a Vitamix blender marked 3 cents. It typically costs a bit more.

I had to talk to one scheduling maintenance at a car dealership, & despite stating explicitly that it was a computer the call for some reason still had annoying fake "office chatter" in the background & the AI would make these fake "typing" sounds whenever it was processing my answers to questions.

020

So much of this game is so visually/aesthetically stimulating, but it's the Underpass that I'm seeing in my sleep. I haven't even finished my first playthru & I'm already concepting the shots I'm gonna take for phone wallpapers/lockscreens when they finally drop the photo mode (Nov?).

020

I decided to take tomorrow off because I feel like I need a solid Nothing Day for mental health. But because I've made that decision, I can feel my brain already slipping into Late Friday Afternoon Mode early on a Thursday afternoon 😅 Not great.
