Yeah, he was right to say it, too. Idk, Mastodon's "tyranny of the server admin" is sounding better every day. If the public square is going to be ruled by unaccountable dipshits, at least let me pick my dipshit.
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg deserve to die more than any two men have ever deserved to die. Any sane society would hang them and then hang everyone who ever associated with them.

A trans couple has been brutalized by a mob, and then the trans woman ended up being arrested afterwards, at a public bathroom in Louisiana. EITM writer S Baum investigates this horrible act of violence in our latest piece. www.erininthemorning.com/p/trans-coup...

I just saw this in a comment on a web article: "The last 250 years are an aberration from the exploitation of energy stockpiles the dinosaurs left us." the dinosaurs didn't leave us energy stockpiles. plants did. lots and lots of plants that didn't decay like plants now, over millions of years.

The AI bubble hasn't grown as a result of any actual return on investment, productivity gains or what it does, but stock prices, vibes and a cult of personality. OpenAI has created a kind of psychosis in the markets that can only break with its collapse. www.wheresyoured.at/the-openai-bubble/

The AI bubble isn’t a result of any actual return on investment — whether that be in purely monetary terms, like revenue or profitability , productivity gains, or anything tangible or measurable. Rather, it’s an episode of cult-like psychosis that infected the brains of some of the most powerful and wealthy individuals and institutions, where the powerful mythology of a company inspired — and been used to inspire — the greatest capital misallocation in history.

As much as this’ll piss some people off, I fully believe that the only reason this has kept going so long is that OpenAI has yet to collapse. Its failure would be a watershed moment — the Lehman Brothers of the AI bubble, and an event that would define the end of one epoch, the start of another, and that would shake the afflicted out of that psychosis. Absent this wake-up call, NVIDIA has continued to sell GPUs, the coffers of the semiconductor industry have continued to swell, and more and more spending commitments have been made.
Look. OpenAI intends to burn over $852 billion by the end of 2030. It accounts for $748 billion of the remaining performance obligations of Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle, on top of at least another $70 billion of RPOs across Cerebras, CoreWeave, Nebius, IREN, Lambda, and Nscale (per Kakashii), and plans to spend indeterminate billions’-worth of Broadcom “Jalapeno” chips. It intends to spend $50 billion or more on compute this year, which I estimate is more than 50% of all global AI compute spend (with OpenAI taking up 50%+ of all AI compute infrastructure).

OpenAI can only afford to pay that as a result of its latest (assuming it fully closes) $122 billion funding round, of which it has received at least $50 billion, with $20 billion from SoftBank (of $30 billion, with the third tranche due October 1, 2026). NVIDIA mentioned in its latest quarterly earnings report that it “estimate[d] that one AI research and deployment company contributed to a meaningful amount of [its] revenue by purchasing cloud services from [its] customers in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027,” referring, of course, to OpenAI.

It was this moment where I did absolutely everything right. Where I finally accepted and believed I could have done nothing better, and still I faced the same anger, fear, and hostility my being trans had instilled in these people That was the moment I learned to hate in the way you described.

In the end, it wasn’t my sister blackmailing me to force me to leave my wife. It wasn’t her husband threatening to get me fired from my job by outing me as trans at a company event. It wasn’t my mother saying I was dead to her nor my sister denying me a chance to ever see my nephews and nieces.

I stood outside and patiently waited until everyone else had left and they finally would let me in. It caused a bit of a hullabaloo as family saw me outside and questioned why I wasn’t being allowed in. It created a bit of a circus even.

For me, it was when my mother died that I finally changed my tune. My step-father at the time, along with my step grandmother and my biological sister, worked together to hire an off duty cop to keep me out of the funeral home during my mother’s pre funeral viewing.

Yeah. You’ll be able to see most of that 4K from there!
000
Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
Ooh. Let me do the math! So for an 80 inch TV the 1080p cutoff is about 16 feet.Sitting closer than that improves on 1080p and lets you see a bit more detail than 1080p. At 8 feet you can see 1440p, and you can see the full 4K resolution at 5 feet.
110
Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
Yeah. And it all has to do with viewing distance and screen size. My desk monitor is 1440p and I really value that higher resolution in games. But in my living room I clamp the output at 1080p because there’s literally no point in going higher there.

Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
www.pcgamer.com/how-many-fra... Discusses the frame rate stuff a bit if you want to see a bit more detail. In the case of frame rate it’s a real improvement to have higher frame rates. But higher resolution is a different animal. The data shows most people can’t see it.
110
Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
Weird. Frame rate is definitely something that I understand people can perceive.Thats why VR headsets typically start around 90fps, because that’s where human acuity clusters on frame rate perception. Apparently up to 120 is still perfeivable for most folks.

Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
To be fair. A lot of 4K TVs come with shitty upscalers. So feeding a 1080p signal into them can look like ass. But that’s not a resolution issue. That’s an upscale issue and a better solution is to have your device do its own upscaling and bypass the TVs crappy one.

I think it’s also marketing/advertising. People want the big number and think it matters as a result. And certainly when you stick your face against the display you can see the difference. But no one plays that way. It’s chasing a useless marketing gimmick.

It’s basically a subjective summary of the actual data. When you look at the data, most people’s visual acuity to resolve detail falls close to it. A typical person sitting 10 feet away from a 65 inch screen cannot physically see detail better than 1080p.
110
Pandora @pandybird.bsky.social · 14/07/2026
When I look at charts like these I find it impossible to understand why people want the Steam Machine or any living room PC or game console to do 4k in their living rooms. At a typical 8-10 feet from a 65 inch TV, the best you can actually make out is basically just 1080p.
