It’s embarrassing how often Jagex cancels a feature or a release after having committed to a date. Imagine actually announcing a date and then doing the thing on that date.

I kind of want to add a Q&A at the bottom in the form of “But what about XYZ?” And then paste the exact same “No llms of any kind for any reason.” Verbatim under each of them for comedic effect.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: There's so much evil in the world that's near impossible not to partake in, stuff like avoiding everything owned by nestlé or avoiding AWS hosted services. But AI is not like that. You *can* just not use it, it really is that simple.

Yeah, but THE DISTINCTION MATTERS!!! Fuck, humanity is done for. Where's the nearest bridge?

The game is here: github.com/Villadelfia/... It's written entirely in Z80 assembly with these two fae hands. No AI slop involved.

Wait you're a fan of TGM? Have you tried Pandora's Blocks on the game boy color? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

If you want to boycott both, that’s basically everything. They’re literally unboycottable.

Half the internet runs on the cloud services owned by Amazon, Bluesky used to.

It‘s also just a heuristic, not discrimination. I’d describe my dog as not liking men too, but she likes me and I doubt my dog knows what being agender means. Of course the kind of people that would yell discrimination are more than likely exactly the kind of people this dog is scared of.

It’s one level deeper than that. The kind of people that would do something wouldn’t be in those kinds of groups in the first place. I know for certain that I would have reported them, but I also know that I wouldn’t have been invited in the first place, and it’s not just because I’m agender/ace.

There are two types of shelters: Kill shelters, and allow-to-be-killed-by-other-shelters shelters. Only one of them is honest about what they’re doing.

Manicules are the best. I want one of those tiny hands on an extendable stick.

I give people that think it’s gross the side eye. How bad are you treating your pets that having them in bed would be gross? If your pets are well treated and cleaned, worst that can happen is they get sick and have an accident… In which case go to the vet and change the sheets?

Worst are RPGs with both random encounters and world level scaling to party level. Looking at you FFVIII.

Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 30/09/2026
I’ve forgotten the game, but there’s at least one RPG where you can just decide how many you get in the menu. Not in accessibility or anything, just straight up in the menu. Second best approach to me is games with a fairly easy to get equippable to turn off/turbocharge encounters.

It’s uncanny how often I learn of something and then come across it constantly right after. I know it’s a known phenomenon and it’s all in my head but it still freaks me out whenever it happens.

I always find it extremely hard to find a good balance between not being too prescriptivist in RP and having species descriptions so loose that nobody knows what, for example, a drow is. I used to run an RP space in second life and I never found a good balance honestly.

Sadly, specifically in IT there's a ton of actual professionals who should know better that gladly use LLM's. It's the main reason I'm abandoning the field. Seeing both the devastation slop is causing outside combined with tons of people inside that'll take any shortcut regardless of cost broke me.

To clarify, I still believe they stifle good faith arguments, but I’ve also come to realize that absent a trained moderator and an appropriate forum, good faith arguments do not exist online. And don’t get me started on places like hackernews that like to pretend they’re such a forum.

And yes that includes Claude Mythos Fable Codex 6.9 Extreme or whatever the cult is pushing today. It's just more expensive and wordy. Still sucks.

Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 27/09/2026
Also I've been a software engineer for literally 20 years. All LLM's still suck completely at code in anything that's not entirely superficial. I'm leaving that shit behind though, I'm changing my career to industrial automation and PLC control. Safety standards wholly forbid LLM usage there.

Once upon a time when I was a stupid idealistic teen I used to be against powerful blocks because I reasoned they stifled good faith arguments. Now that I'm an old and jaded fae, I realize that people can't clear the incredibly low bar of "only argue what you genuinely believe" and I welcome them.

Except the VIN, was able to replace all of them though.

Honestly I think the ghost of Hitler is fucking with me in particular. My first job badge had 8814 as the final 4 digits, my last car's VIN has 14 and 88 in it, my first bank card's randomly generated pin was 1488, and my current car's license plate was 2-XXX-599, one digit off on all the numbers.

I think most of them do, but only for certain types of links. I might also be working on outdated information since internet access is now much faster such that there is hardly ever a valid need for pre-loading the next page of a paginated view. Both Chrome and Firefox at least used to do it.

Oh, then there’s no problem to begin with. I was just worried about accidental drive by bans.

Maybe best to have that link not be clickable? Some browsers pre-load a link if you linger your cursor over it.

I love the whole category of "playaround" TASes. Stuff like ACE, or just showing off in autoscrollers.

Also, if you want to write an assembly game for the game boy as I did: RGBDS is an amazing assembler, and the pan docs are the gold standard in tech docs that no other platform even comes close to.

Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 12/09/2026
I'm not a huge fan of the 6502 myself because it's super restricted in how you get to use the registers it has, but the systems using it are fun to write for, it's the only one in the list that has actually useful "illegal" instructions. In essence, pick the system first, then just have fun. (3/3)
010
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 12/09/2026
The 68k is an amazingly powerful and flexible architecture with tons of registers and useful instructions, but all the systems that use it are also quite complex. For the Amiga as an example, you'd have to learn an entire second co-processor. (2/?)
110
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 12/09/2026
There's three broad choices for assembly retro coding: 6502 (NES, C64, 2600, ...), Z80 (Gameboy and literally half the systems from the 80's), 68k (Megadrive, Amiga, ...) They all feel very different, personally I love the Z80 because the game boy has amazingly good tech docs. But... (1/?)

Given the state TGM4 released in we might've been better off if he'd kept his word. The clone games are better nowadays. At least they don't have fucking variable input lag.
000
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 11/09/2026
He genuinely, and I do mean genuinely, expects you to buy an arcade PCB through legitimate means, and play that or not play it at all. The dude still has top ranked people in the TGM community blacklisted because they once played on emulator at an event.
000
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 11/09/2026
I fully believe that the only reason none of the many better clone games haven't taken over as the main ranked hardcore game is the prestige of being an "officially published" game, because it sure as hell isn't game quality.
020
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 11/09/2026
And he's SO deep up his own ass about doing things "the proper way" that TGM4 turned out to be a deeply flawed game folding to the tetris company's demands in several places. It also has variable input lag btw.
130
Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 11/09/2026
Well I made one of those games (Pandora's Blocks, you can find it online, innovation being the platform it's on.) And all he has done in the mean time is TGM4, which is a janky, incomplete game, that changes the rules on rankings every time someone figures them out. Leaderboards are unhappy.

What's the point of an "archive" if it then goes and changes stuff from the original?

You're giving him too much of the benefit of the doubt. He perfectly understands the difference, as do most people. He just doesn't want to admit that he has a consent issue.

Pandora @pandora.novaresear.ch · 04/09/2026
I played it for a long time before quitting this expansion. It's essentially a single player game with occasional rude interruptions where it suddenly insists you wait for 3/7 other people to do something together. Playing it together with a friend from scratch is essentially impossible.

Modern emulators with visual event viewers are so awesome for this.

I honestly wouldn't call you "extreme far left" but I also don't know you personally. I'd call the politics I see from you in public "generally sensible and socially responsible." I guess that counts for extreme far left nowadays?
