Exactly! Genuinely the best stuff they've got to work with is meta-ing the producers -> they wd definitely choose a variety of ages/sexes/races as traitors; they'd never put all 3 traitors in a car together; traitors are likely to be tired w extra shooting... It's rubbish that that's the best info

They're not game designers but they cd hire some Ytube games of BOTC are often really fun to watch even with not-very-interesting ppl playing it; actually well-designed social games played by cool and/or famous ppl wd be great & it's annoying they're not going to do it

They'll never do that bc they have a shooting schedule and outline for what happens when so they can fill the screen time they need to (an actual game could be won brilliantly, quickly), but the current format is so stupid in it not mattering at all if they catch traitors at all for ages

But actual true competitions just often do end up fascinating (scrabble; Olympic curling; speedruns...) The best thing that could happen to the traitors would be them setting it up like an actual game that can be solved and w lots of player agency

Sasuke/Ninja warrior is such a good example - Japanese one is great, bc it's just an insane challenge that's genuinely impressive to watch Shiny-floor TV producers don't want an intense competition that ends w nobody even making the final stage

but TV producers with meaningful budgets are nervous about trusting that a game played w integrity, so they interfere w everything to try to create what they think is entertaining

I think traitors is a good example of a tension between games that are trying to be good games and games that are trying to be entertainment - Jonathan Wilson sometimes says that football is a competition first & it's incidental that it's entertaining

Each player gets a role and lots get information-there's a drunkness mechanic that means info can be wrong, so it's not inevitable they'll work things out, but it's so much better than the just info-free nonsense Traitors As an eg, one role learns the role of another good player at the start

The way perceived intelligence works in The traitors is really odd - anyone who professionally does stuff most ppl see as intellectually outside their ken gets treated as though they have secret magic abilities (as if they're not ALL in a game where you get no actual info) The othering is strange

The game design of the traitors is so annoyingly information-free when you've seen BOTW (imagine a role like the lunatic in traitors!)
