Today's ramen build. Gonna level with you, could've been spicier. The curry packet didn't do any favors. I've had it before, it's fine as a standalone bowl of noodles, but it added little to the total flavor profile here. But the chicken was SLAMMIN & the kimchi was great. I slurped up every bite!

Video essay editing protip: there's often no artful reason game trailers add cuts/fades to black, and if there is, it's usually to go with the music and audio you're already muting. That's why I like to take the time to edit that crap out & make a b-roll master clip from multiple trailers.

So many boomer woes come from "tradition" and "family values" as spackle over cruel abusive self-excusing behavior. Now they're upset because the spackle isn't doing what it said on the tin. They expect their kids to tank years of abuse, but can't tank hours of therapy or even minutes of remorse.

Ironically, the "experts" in question are ignoring input from the kids, while forging 3rd-party social explanations from copium. Worth noting this is the same generation that normalized exiling their kids for being gay/trans. They don't hate cut-offs, they just expect unimpeachable control over it.

That's the beauty of Hades, it leans into character flaws, and does so boldly. It also begs the question of what deathless eternity would do to someone's perspective (e.g. Sisyphus). Hades 2 writing is just as good, but IMHO it's competing with gameplay that's stretched too thin.

Simon's Quest was the 1st video game I ever bought with my own money, so the Captain N conversion really hit me hard. They took a character I had a deep invested connection with & made him an unlikable gadget-bro. I understand Megaman fans had it pretty bad too, but I wouldn't know.

At first I was more bothered by how the game had a bromance between him and the minotaur. But then the game laid out how eternity after death gave Theseus the opportunity to see how the bull of Minos was a victim of the same horrid system, which i think was nice.

I assume many folks know Theseus either from the "Ship of Theseus" thought experiment, or the way he got interpreted by the 1st Hades game - which itself always reminded me of what the Captain N cartoon did to Simon Belmont. Honestly I think that last point is what I really wanted to bring up.

RE that list of TV shows. I can see why Breaking Bad is at the top. The cinematography alone puts it well ahead of the pack. Casting & direction is stellar, character development is exquisite, and it steers into the very nuance that many modern storytelling is too scared to touch.

The nature of freedom is an away-team battle vs the status quo. The home team won't dig themselves up willingly, certainly not when it's easier to sit like a raspberry bush. An enforced, maintained status quo is their root structure. "Blue no matter who" isn't freedom, it's a blue raspberry bush!
