I don’t know if I coined it, but I say it a lot these days: fundamentally, venality cannot understand virtue. They will always be surprised and baffled by basic human decency, because they lack it entirely.

I don't know why anybody is surprised about what's in the budget bill. It's the same thing that venture capitalists do: stripping an asset of resources, loading it with debt, and letting it sink into bankruptcy. They're just doing it to a country instead of a corporation.

Part of the social contract that grants the government a monopoly on violence is the understanding that the agents of the state will act in accord with our laws. When the agents of the state use their monopoly on violence without any regard for the law, the social contract starts to dissolve.

I don’t know why the media keeps saying Musk failed. He was able to steal data, compromise cyber security at agencies, destroy departments that were investigating his companies, and served as a distraction. He’s leaving because the damage is done. Looks like mission accomplished to me.

How petty and little to revel in the suffering of others. How limited to have all that power and wealth and only be able to think of ways to hurt people with it.

Not sure why the adult male figure has a big swirly lollipop in this scenario. Also, it seems like the tree is specifically targeting the people. Not sure what they did to deserve that. Maybe it was warranted.

Ursula le Guin, on the accusation that fantasy is an escape from reality
[“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape? The moneylenders, the know-nothings, the authoritarians have us all in prison; if we value the freedom of the mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can.”]

Elected officials should have been required to take 100 hours of civics classes before being sworn in. It seems like most of them don't understand the purpose of government which is why they talk s*** about it all the time.

Musk has a total disregard for the well-being of US citizens and a stated intent to harm them by crashing the economy. It's disgusting seeing the hand wringing of politicians who have the authority to prevent it.

Almost 20 years ago, a doctor on TV was asked, "Isn't 12 a little early for a kid to be deciding to transition?" And her response was, "It's old enough for them to decide that it's not worth living anymore if they can't." That was the only argument I ever needed to hear about gender affirming care.

A failed justice system corrodes democracy. When the Supreme Court granted immunity to the president-elect, it removed accountability, enabling authoritarianism. By placing the leader above the law, the Court transformed the presidency into kingship, endangering liberty and justice for all.
Lady Liberty's tears are for all. Even for those who do not yet know what they've done by electing a king.

Someone should tell the Congress that if they approve Trump's "interesting" nominations, showing that they will enable anything he asks no matter what it is, that lobbyists will stop giving them money and just start paying Trump directly.
