From Facebook, Halifax Forum Community Association says Fillmore has asked Halifax Hawks board to help him change council’s decision on redevelopment of the Forum.
MEDIA RELEASE STATEMENT: From The Halifax Forum Community Association Sept. 16, 2026

Mayor Fillmore is at it again, behind closed doors.

Mayor Andy Fillmore has asked the Halifax Hawks Board of Directors to help him change Regional Council’s decision on redevelopment of the Halifax Forum. Mayor Fillmore has been advocating that the Forum land is too valuable to be used as community and recreation space. He wants the Forum land to be sold or leased to land developers. Council disagreed, and in March of this year voted to proceed with the Forum redevelopment. Construction on the new Forum is scheduled to begin next summer with the new facility opening in late 2030.

For their role, the Halifax Hawks have decided to abide by Mayor Fillmore’s wishes. They are planning to launch a media campaign to halt the redevelopment in the coming days with the goal of pressuring councilors who voted in favour of the Forum’s redevelopment.

“Councillors and residents of the municipality deserve transparency, not back room deals from the Mayor”, said Paul Card, Chair of the Halifax Forum Community Association.

Nova Scotia - and other provinces - need to bring in produce labelling similar to Ontario’s, which mandates clear place of origin signs. An easy thing for the Houston gov’t to do. Otherwise, I expect other big retailers will follow Loblaw’s lead. Ontario rules here: www.ontario.ca/page/regulat...

There’s a Save Our Libraries read-in happening at 1 p.m. today outside Tory MLA John Lohr’s office in Kentville. Libraries are places where knowledge, imagination and community are respected and nurtured - we need more spaces like this, not fewer.
A Facebook post from Gillian Yorke says: Join me this afternoon beginning at 1:00pm for a read-in at John Lohr’s office (347 Main Street, Kentville). Demonstrations against government actions don’t have to be loud to be effective, but they do require people. Bring a book, bring your chair and bring your outrage at the attack on culture in Nova Scotia.

Quite the ❤️ for Premier Houston from Canada’s fossil fuel queen.
A Facebook post from Alberta Premier Danielle Smith reads:
Premier Tim Houston and I are working closely together to build a stronger, more self-reliant Canada.

Alberta and Nova Scotia see eye to eye on the need to develop our natural resources, grow our economy, and reduce reliance on foreign energy. Today’s roundtable centered on ensuring we match oil and gas expertise here in Alberta with new opportunities in Nova Scotia’s onshore natural gas sector. Special thanks to Minister Brian Jean for putting today together.

This actually appears in @nytimes.com morning newsletter: Heinous crimes against young girls referenced as “ick” and apparently the Epstein files are so large and sprawling that “it can be difficult to understand exactly what they tell us, except that (Epstein) had a lot of powerful friends.” 1/2
Two paragraphs from the New York Times morning newsletter that read:
“The Epstein files are a lot, and that’s before we get to Trump’s appearances in them. They present such a sprawling, sordid, sometimes inchoate scandal that it can be difficult to understand exactly what they tell us, except that the guy had a lot of powerful friends.

He used them for various reasons, and they used him for their own. Some of it was illegal. Some of it was ick. Some of it was quotidian (my name appears a few times because Epstein subscribed to various Times newsletters). And this week it’s all people want to talk about.”
