Two shows back-to-back. One epic day of games. Join us on June 7 for Xbox Games Showcase, immediately followed by Gears of War: E-Day Direct: xbx.lv/4bEcg4p | #XboxShowcase
On the left side of the image the Xbox nexus is illuminated from the back in green with a swirl of blue and green illuminated particles emanating around it. Text below reads: "Xbox Games Showcase. Sunday, June 7th. 10am PT/1PM ET/6PM BST." The YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, and TikTok logos are shown. On the right side of the image is a graphic of a red skull surrounding by what looks like fractured concrete. Text below reads"Gears of War: E-Day Direct. Immediately following Xbox Games Showcase" The Xbox logo is shown in the bottom left corner and The Coalition logo is shown in the bottom right corner.

Gaming once again pushing tech forward. I guarantee the push to unify Xbox and PC and gamers’ zero tolerance for bullshit is a big part of the sudden focus to clean up Windows.

Another Xbox hit piece. Sure let’s tie together Xbox with one of the most divisive news headlines that’s completely unrelated to it whatsoever. There are plenty of actual things to criticize Xbox for without fake outrage. And then just leave out Sony, who is actually using ML with PSSR on PS5 Pro.

Just wanted to shout out @brazyazn.bsky.social for conducting an excellent interview with Todd Howard @bethesda.net. This is how you do it - fair but in-depth questions that avoid fluff responses. Nicely done. www.ign.com/articles/tod...

Usually I’d agree, but a couple things keep 2027 in play. 1. The unified PC/Helix pipeline means PC games should need little work to launch. Less for devs to learn. 2. I’m fairly certain Xbox Series dev kits rolled out the same year as launch.

Microsoft says you build next-gen Xbox games by building them for PC. My colleagues @seanhollister.bsky.social + @jaypeters.net are in line for Xbox GDC keynote, but look at what they spotted. "Next-gen game preservation" and building for PC for next-gen consoles 👀 www.theverge.com/news/893196/...

It did occur to me that perhaps they preemptively raised the prices to get it out of the way. Then it would only be “good news” when they added that capability.

Looks great, would be neat if it was dynamic - when you stopped navigating/interacting for a few seconds, the blades would disappear allowing the content to expand outwards.

And yet Xbox seems to be confidently announcing their plans heading into GDC. Perhaps Microsoft stockpiled chips earlier on?

Biggest questions they need to answer: 1. Price - will they do subsidize at all to help make this more affordable? 2. Exclusives - will there be any? 3. User experience - will this really truly feel like a console with Windows being invisible unless you enable it?

Best generation for Xbox was the 360 that launched a year ahead of Sony.

Exactly. They really screwed that up. But they are loaded for next gen, which is why you are hearing more movement from them to move on than from Sony.

NEW: Sony no longer plans to release PlayStation games on PC, sources tell Bloomberg News, a major shift in strategy that sees the console maker returning to exclusivity after six years of flirting with multiplatform. Ghost of Yotei and Saros are not coming to PC. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Agreed. And the first half of the generation was very bleak. But they do now own enough studios with major franchises to produce effective exclusives.
100
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
I agree that if all console platforms removed exclusives it would be great for the consumer. But it just isn’t happening. Xbox being the only one to do it will be devastating for their console platform. If they continue this strategy with no change, Sony will have a monopoly in the console space.
210
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
When they started porting games, consoles and Game Pass processors were still affordable. And given their commitment to backwards compatibility, it’s not about building momentum for just Series X|S, it’s about the Xbox console platform (including next gen).
100
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
I’m specifically talking about when they started going console multi-platform and putting things on PlayStation. They did that at the absolute worst time when games actually started dropping. They could have built momentum for Xbox and instead buried it in favor of a short term cash grab.
210
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
Correction: they could not sell enough consoles without great games! Right when they started to crank out good games, they began the multi-platform approach without ever giving their IP and studios they invested in a chance to move consoles.
1370
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 04/03/2026
This is precisely the part of the argument most people miss when they dismiss exclusives. Any short term revenue you gain from porting to other platforms is lost in the long run by damaging your console platform and the fees collected there. This is what Xbox is giving up.
170
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
Also, these arguments have the false assumption that existing gamers are the only ones that matter. New gamers enter the market every day! Kids become teens who become adults with expendable income. They have no existing libraries.
100
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
Old games only matter to a point. How many times are you going to play last gen Spider Man and God of War? Make great new games and people will come. It takes patience that Microsoft has the financial backing for, but not the willingness from leadership.
200
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
There are several options that balance multiplat revenue gains with restoring value to console: - timed exclusivity guarantee (with multiplat optional after that) - single player games permanent exclusives (Xbox + PC), multiplayer day 1 multiplat - Xbox-only perks (early access, DLC, discounts)

They really need to engage with the community instead of burying their heads in the sand and implementing what they think Xbox fans want. You can have the best hardware and most innovative features, but that’s not the reason people buy in. It’s all about access to great games.
000
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
Exactly. “Features” and “services” are ancillary to games. The Series X is a great piece of hardware with compelling features and services, but lacking great exclusives. And it’s not selling. Going forward with the same approach will give you the same results.

Xbox could build the best console in the world, at the most competitive price available; the trajectory of the Xbox ecosystem won't change for the better if you don't start to rebuild your brand identity by offering experiences & games you have only on Xbox (Console, Cloud, PC).

I think Sony is banking on complete takeover of the console space that Xbox seems to be exiting. They are thinking that eating a much bigger piece of a shrinking pie is better for them than several pieces of different pies, I assume.

pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 25/02/2026
“Aren’t in console or our hardware” could just mean PC, but I think we all know this means other consoles. It’s clear she wants to consider change because she know the current approach has problems. The only solution I see to satisfy both camps is across the board timed exclusivity.

I agree that Xbox is in a far stronger position than online discourse suggests. However, their success is in spite of their chaotic and disjointed messaging. If the new CEO solidifies a strategy and communicates it effectively, Xbox has everything it needs to do very well.
010
pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 24/02/2026
The issue is that people conflate failing console business with failing as a game company. It is not ignorant at all to state that the former is very possible for Xbox.

With the new Xbox CEO saying "I want to return to the renegade spirit that built Xbox in the first place", I'd say the return of Major Nelson would certainly help!

Yeah, and I have to wonder how much this has played into Microsoft slowly walking away from hardware as a focus.

pale blue pixel @palebluepixel.bsky.social · 18/02/2026
For hardware, the first upward trend aligns with the XSX / PS5 launch but was kept in check by low cost of continued Switch sales. After the Switch 2 launch and other hardware price increases, it jumped again, which makes sense.
