Crypto wealthy investing in a pro-crypto politcal entity to suit their own financial interests? Surely not!?!? They just care about the UK they don't actually live in. 🤪 Crypto relies on the principle of 'greater fool' economics. Hopefully, that same principle doesn't also apply to UK democracy.

Absolutely! Considering there is, by law, an opt-out option for union member subs being used towards political donations, then it is most definitely an individual choice. The rules on donations should make that distinct permissible.

Rejoin EU would be excellent, but maybe not quite the right time just yet. Adding rejoin as a manifesto pledge could really embolden Reform and hand them something else to rail against. The rise of far-right politics in Europe has the potential to seriously destabilise the EU.

Person connected to dubious thing says it's all above board. Yeah, let's make that the headline. FFS! The BBC seems to be actively trying to destroy themselves and take UK democracy with them.

Crypto billionaires investing in a pro-crypto political business entity that aims to heavily deregulate cryptocurrencies and lift anti-money laundering regulations. Seems totally totslly legit! :) 'Greater fool' economics applies to crypto and time will tell if that also applies to UK democracy.

OK #Labour, now that Reform have absolutely cooked themselves, it seems safe to add 'Rejoin EU' as a pledge in your next election manifesto. Be bold and do what the UK needs to improve business, work and abroad study opportunities. Make it so (please). @lucympowell.bsky.social

Labour's 'EU reset' strategy is making some progress. It's limited by their 2024 election pledges, but building more bridges with the EU than Tories could. Approx. 2 thirds of Labour members support adding 'rejoin EU' to their manifesto for the next election. Interesting if they actually go for it.

The reality that the UK would most likely have to commit to adoption of the Euro (regardless of timeframe) would be a poison chalice for a rejoin referendum. It would give Farage a platform he wants. Labour are doing more than the Tories, but agreed they are hamstrung by their 2024 election pledges.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
It's far more likely it was just simple incompetence. Hostile nations could just sit back and eat their popcorn while the Tories fumbled the deal.

Agreed. Corbyn dropped the ball there in a vain attempt to not alienate his working-class support, but the country really needed someone they believed in to champion the Remain campaign. That failure is ultimate proof that there is no such thing as 'Uniparty'.

Brexit was sold on lies and has been a disaster for UK. Labour have been steadily improving relations with the EU. It is probably not the right time to fully rejoin, though, as it would likely mean having to adopt the Euro, and it would also give idiots like Farage a massive soapbox to shout from.

Agreed. Gene was a visionary helped by Gene L Coon to make Star Trek the show we love. TNG was an upgrade, but that show really got going after Rodenberry gave up creative control to Berman/Piller. TNG became the highest rated Trek of all time and they (mostly) upheld Rodenberry's 'rules' for Trek.

That is infuriating news. The Infinite Monkey Cage can't possibly work without you. It makes no sense to even try. This should be a spin-off variant under a new title. A placeholder until the BBC formally apologises for their ridiculous and inappropriate overreach and gives the show back to you.

Hah! Well, yeah. There are so many imaginary things that people don't believe in it's not really feasible to go around door-to-door to speak about it all. "Hello, sorry to bother you, but we were wondering if you also didn't believe in fairies at the bottom of the garden?"

A great TNG episode and a poignant choice by the director there to end the scene. Trusting the audience with a 'show, don't tell' approach to television storytelling. Thanks for pointing this out.

Elites tend to only receive any real-world pressure when their peers lose faith in them. The media is owned by the establishment and has only now started to uniformly level criticism at Farage since it's become so obvious his greed outweighs his political ambition. He is useless.

Well, it's likely why Reform are already doubling-down with talks of deportations, but hopefully that's only going to appeal to the ultra-nationalists who seem to be losing faith in Farage anyway and will disappear off to 'Restore' ...ewww! Don't even like typing that one.

Yeah, back to 2012 levels, but the MSM prefers to fuel division, so that fact is not well publicised. Polls suggest that many even falsely believe the numbers are still rising! We live on bizarre times.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Yeah, not the time to give him that soapbox. A Reform government is an existential threat to the UK. More people need to actually look at their disastrous policies and not just the nonsense they spout about immigration. I'm hoping Farage will lose interest again, and then Reform will be done.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Yes, I agree. Starmer wasn't given much credit for trying to re-build bridges broken by Brexit, and ultimately, it's best to look ahead. Even if we're in contention about the precision of gdp stats, it definitely harmed trade, investments, and opportunities for the next generation. Burnham FTW! :)

The EU comparison stats are cumulative and from multiple sources. Germany's economy is very wonky at the moment due to their energy cost issues. Not ideal timing to phase out nuclear, but they should recover once their power costs stabilise following such heavy investment in renewables.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
Yes, there is still growth, but OBR and independent studies all show the UK GDP growth to be ~6% to 8% lower since Brexit and that growth has consistently lagged behind other EU member nations. Brexit was sold to the public on lies and then seriously mishandled by the Tories.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
💯 Anyone going abroad instantly becomes aware of the negative effects of Brexit. Also reduced work and training opportunities for the next generation, the negative impact on the economy and trade. Oh, but at least we don't have pesky Brussels interfering with our laws to improve our working rights.

It's standard Reform playbook to claim victimisation for political gain. Under impartiality rules, the BBC must now give equal air time to Binface and everyone else running in the Clacton election to discuss their thoughts.

Using "communist" as a pejorative is lazy simpleton politics. The Cold War ended 35 years ago! 'Red-Baiting' has always been the retreat of anyone who can't formulate a proper thought or argument for themselves. It's pathetic that they are still using it.

A lot of the boomer generation were Labour voters right up until Thatcher enabled the working class to buy their council houses. They got captured by right-wing conservativism from that point onwards. Thatcherism led to the blinkered individualism that still blights our society to this day.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
Well, that just goes to prove that 'monetary worth' is an irrelevant metric. It's possible to be the richest person on the planet and still be an utterly worthless human being.

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Yeah, definitely equivalent in that regard. If the Greens were to ever win a majority they'd have to have a temp PM and get Polanski elected to one of their safe seats. Clacton is almost certainly a safe seat for Reform, but it's nice to imagine Farage losing it due to his idiot strop. Go binface!

Colin T. Barbarian @painstick.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
