Across the 7 Quebec elections since @quebecsolidaire.bsky.social was founded, the party has won 36 seats. Under a proportional system its vote share would have given it 81. I don't understand why this isn't the publicized dealbreaker for any agreement with a minority government.

Election	Vote share	Seats won	Proportional share	Shortfall
2007	3.64%	0	4.6 of 125	5
2008	3.78%	1	4.7 of 125	4
2012	6.03%	2	7.5 of 125	6
2014	7.63%	3	9.5 of 125	7
2018	16.08%	10	20.1 of 125	10
2022	15.43%	11	19.3 of 125	8
2026	12.42%	9	15.8 of 127	7
Total 36	81.5	about 45

I wish @quebecsolidaire.bsky.social would stop putting the cart before the horse and do this. Every election they get half the seats they should, if they put a pin in the 100 item socialist wish list and elevated electoral reform to the top they could be twice as influential from that point on […]

Great to see @emilylowan.bsky.social raise proportional representation twice during last night's debate! First-past-the-post locks us into hyper-polarized two party politics that traps voters into feeling they must vote out of fear instead of their values. Check out her answers here!

Ranked choice voting in Canada is pushed by partisans who stand to benefit. You can have proportional ranked choice voting (STV) or add a dozen MLAs to keep local representation but he pushes a system that models his party doing super well […]

Great CBC article on how first-past-the-post has distorted Quebec's democracy. The PQ, QS, and PCQ all committed to electoral reform during the election campaign. Now is the time to make that happen. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Parti Québécois win with record-low vote share revives calls for electoral reform | CBC News
A record-low vote share for Quebec's incoming PQ government has reignited a long-simmering debate over how the province elects its leaders.

I hope the PQ get a minority because on ProRep Plamondon is a certified slippery fish. But both QS and the PCQ are for real and could keep him honest if they push the issue. As a single issue voter I appreciate @quebecsolidaire.bsky.social for getting is on the agenda.

All the #Ontario parties have now completed their conversion over to the.. flower thing. TBH I kind of think the old liberal logo was pretty iconic and none of these seem very good.

The conservatives had this brief 3 year period where they gave the leaf a little spin which I'm sure was a hot debate. It's probably really annoying that the Liberal's have branded themselves red. #Canada

If Silo was realistic, it’d be a massive number of people nodding with pursed lips at people they pass on the stairs because they have a petty grievance about something they did 6 years ago.

The writers on the show Silo haven’t lived in an isolated small town. There’s no secrets, a pool of 10k people doesn’t produce dozens of genius political operators, criminals and engineers. So many scenes where two people don’t know each other and people pass through a crowd of strangers.

Among the unexpected side effects of bodycams, the videos make the police look good because the videos are only of people who were found guilty (I assume the court docket is how they source the footage). Here's a pretty innocuous example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDkR2xt79Ic

Police bodycams and the Freedom of Information Act has created a pretty crazy production ecosystem of YouTube channels. They get access, then edit together the footage using the court records and file photos.

Building like this benefit all of us, even if we don’t live in them. More tax uplift. Less traffic, saving you time and money, supporting local businesses. Growing up is profitable for city services, urban sprawl leads to financial ruin. This is Edmonton, but really it is any city.
