I saw Hala Hanina speak at the March on Saturday and she described what zionism looks like and has been from the beginning for the people of Palestine and it just seems insane to contradict her

The founding fathers of the United States were refugees and conceived of Manifest Destiny as the answer to their plight and we have no problem naming that. and can’t you understand the frustration of a people having to tone police and censor their own language just to be heard?

Could you not argue that all racism is motivated by fear? like the orange men on Garvarghy Road? They fear what a united Ireland would look like for them, and They’ve experienced grief and loss. There’s no perfect victims and no perfect perpetrators but we should call things what they are.

That's probably just my bias showing, tbh. But I also didn't like Sky's coverage which painted the players as hopeless hostages of the situation instead of a) a direct result of the cheating, and b) informed adults who knew the club were under investigation when they signed.

As an Arsenal fan I obviously have a bias, but to see the game hinge on those two soft yellows whilst the punishment for years of systematic cheating remains outstanding just made the whole thing feel like a joke, only compounded by City's roster of mercenaries cakewalking the last 25 minutes.

Hard to devise a better metaphor for the past decade and a half of Premier League football than Man City winning while playing with an extra man.

I can't help but feel that to shrink from the zionism motion out of political expediency would be throwing the Palestinian people under the bus yet again. They cannot just continue to be political collateral.

We just had a record in the UK break the record for weeks at no 1 (19!!!) And me nor anyone I knew had heard it. It was jarring but streams do not = cultural footprint and the modern charts have yet to appropriately account for streams.

It is always the same betrayal: the public interest is sacrificed for the sake of immensely wealthy people. And Andy Burnham has already gone and done it. My column on how Burnham needs to defy the ultra-rich if he's not to follow Starmer out of the door. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Andy Burnham has already made a mistake that will cost him his premiership: he lost his nerve over political donations | George Monbiot
Being subservient to the interests of the wealthy now means that his hands are tied, and he will be unable to tackle Britain’s most pressing issues, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Villa were in back to basics mode after a chastening defeat, they were always gonna make it tough for us. But that we found our way, and as you mentioned in IR, Mosquera demonstrating a bravery and creativity shows how we do just give teams too much to think about.

But the biggest movies of the year, Project Hail Mary and Odyssey obviously had a real tactility to them that Marvel and such lost a few years ago. There was also regrettably a COVID issue with films like Spiderman No Way Home which I suppose couldn't be helped.

I think it's straight to streaming with big stars can have TV movie budgets and aesthetics. Filmed in Airbnbs with no set design, clothes are brand new and colour grade is cartoonish. But I find the vocab is confused, "CGI" used as catch all for a lack of veracity or verisimilitude.

Sharing from a friend, a passage from the Leveson Inquiry regarding the British actor Denholm Elliott, who died of AIDS in 1992. Three years after her death, the News of the World journalist Paul McMullan did the following to his daughter—neither a celebrity nor even someone of public interest.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
The Inquiry brought up the case of Denholm Elliott's daughter -
PAUL McMULLAN:
Oh, yeah -
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- which is one case that you truly do regret.
PAUL McMULLAN:
I do, yeah. After Denholm died, she hit rock bottom, was allegedly doing methadone. And although she had, you know, the half-million-pound flat that Denholm had bought her, she didn't have any money to get her ten-pound bag in the morning. So she'd get up and go begging at the tube station.
Here was a young girl crying out to be helped, and she met a police officer who didn't help her but rang up the News of the World and asked for money because he couldn't believe that this is the same girl who'd walked down the red carpet behind Eddie Murphy with Denholm Elliott, you know.BROOKE GLADSTONE:
And you offered her 50 pounds -
PAUL MCMULLAN:
Yeah.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
- if she would come to your place and have sex. So you led her into prostitution, which she wasn't in that space for.
PAUL McMULLAN:
No, indeed. But she was in such a bad place that someone offering her 50 pounds for sex. I mean, that's five bags.BROOKE GLADSTONE:
So how do you justify that? Yes, she was a drug addict, yes, she was begging. Why push her that extra step? Why take pictures of her topless?
PAUL McMULLAN:
I was keen. It was in my first year. I wanted to impress Piers Morgan, who was my boss at the time, and just wanted to say, not only have I caught this girl begging, but l've got pictures of her topless and I've got her offering me sex for 50 quid. How great am I?
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
This is a pretty dehumanizing enterprise, not just for Jennifer Elliott, but for you, yourself.
PAUL McMULLAN:
Yeah, that's why I feel terrible about it, not just 'cause she killed herself afterwards, but I, I actually liked her as a person.

Betrayed by the betrayal factory! How could this happen
Post on the Suno subreddit that reads:

Unbelievable.

Suno had a clear off-ramp...just pay GEMA a fair licensing fee like Spotify or Apple do, take the L, & move on.

Instead, they chose the "nuke our own user base" strategy.

They're literally punishing paying customers for their own legal screw-up. The watermark isn't protecting artists,it's protecting Suno's ass while making sure you can't do anything useful with your own creations.

Total betrayal of trust.

Canceling my subscriptions and they can stick their watermark where the sun don't shine.

I do think the film is ethically confused. Odyseus literally rides off into the sunset, so even if he's technically exiled, he is filmically redeemed.

I think a lot of Wilson's review amounts to what I call the "Bombadil critique" which is objecting to a filmmaker making inevitable choices in an adaptation. Agree with basically half of Wilson's review, but so much of it is "where's Tom Bombadil?"

When I discuss huge systemic issues, people say "but what I can I do?" When I mention something meaningful you can do immediately, people say (as the replies here show) "but what's the point, in the face of the huge systemic issues?" There are, it seems, plenty of people who want to be helpless.

Enlighting read! full of legit crits of the film, only time I feel Wilson veers into illegit crits is when she says "the film is never boring, thanks to the source material", think Nolan deserves at least some credit for that when the source material is famously boring for the lay person

Pat Mc @padraigafc.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
My big Nolan problem is he can't help but say the thing that is more powerful left unsaid, i.e. the "maybe we did" line in Oppenheimer, he's so close to being classy and then he ends up clunky
