Genuinely, this completely rules

－Recently, the game has been going viral on X for its beautiful undressing animations. I’ve even read in one of your previous interviews that the development team practiced stripping themselves as reference for the undressing animations. What was the process behind making the animations actually like?

Matsui:

I’d love to know how far that story has spread. It’s true.

First, we write a plot for each undressing scene, then draw storyboards, exactly as the original team did. Then the real work begins, because the animation is essentially all keyed by hand. A designer moves the clothing’s 3D model, frame by frame, manually. It really is pretty much like the claymation method I mentioned.

We did try automating it with physics simulation first, but it was a total failure. The cloth moved in a physically correct way, but had absolutely no allure. We learned a profound lesson: accuracy and sensuality are two unrelated properties. In the end, we accepted that humans would have to do all of it.

Then VR adds its own weight. In a normal game, if something becomes awkward, you can cut away or swap models between scenes. In VR, the player can look from any angle at any time, so none of those tricks are available. The same model has to undress convincingly no matter where you’re standing. When I described this to a designer at another studio, he said, “I would never do that.” I’ve chosen to take it as a compliment.

And then, yes, the part you’ve read about. The undressing motions themselves use motion capture, but the deeper problem was that nobody actually knew the correct rhythm and order in which a person takes off clothes. So, the directors gathered and undressed themselves as reference. “That zipper is coming down too fast.” “She’d pause once before slipping her shoulder out.” These were serious, sober discussions. For compliance reasons, the Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns team works in a walled-off section of our office – and that was the moment those walls truly earned their keep.

weird girl goes over to some loser's house just to play with his way cooler little brother

panel 1: a small brown puppy named Apollo and donning a backwards faded red hat and a tshirt simply reading 'cool pup' is standing in front of the door to his big brother's bedroom. he wears an expression with large exaggerated puppy dog eyes. he is starting to plead to his brother: "um... can i-..." before he is cut off. The big brother, named Remy, rests his bass guitar resting on his shoulder and responds "HELL NO, DUDE. DON'T YOU HAVE FRIENDS YOUR OWN AGE?" as he speaks, a mossy-green-haired rat named Ambulia chimes in, saying "OMG is that ur little bro? HAIII POLLY!" another shot of Apollo shows him blushing and peaking his head into the room, saying in return: "ehe... Hi Lia!"

panel 3: a split panel portraying a small montage of sorts. the upper half depicts Apollo, arms up, as Ambulia appears at waist-height, slowly pulling down his shorts and star-patterned boxers. Ambulia continues from the previous panel, saying "...it's called 'girlpet'" Apollo asks "girl...? are you gonna be my pet, Miss Ambulia?" Ambulia responds "ohhh not quite~ now let's get these cute lil boxers off... they'll poke right out under your new skirt!"
the lower half of the panel depicts a close-up of Polly, looking blushy and euphoric. on his neck is a faded red or brown collar. the tag of which is being slightly lifted and inspected by a familiar pink rat hand. the tag reads "GIRL PET". Lia says "there we go...! a nice, fitting collar for my sweet little pet"

panel 4: a wide shot of the animals in Remy's room. there are black shorts, star-petterned boxers, and a faded red hat laying on the floor. the door is now shut. Apollo is laying belly-down on Ambulia's lap as she lifts his shirt, petting along his back with one paw and ruffling his hair with the other. he blushes and looks very happy, letting out small pet noises, as pets tend to do. they both rest on Remy's bed. Remy looks on, now holding his bass over his crotch with a nervous grip. he is staring down at his brother, sweating, still flustered. he says, under his breath "wtf... why am i so hard??" Ambulia looks down at her new pet and says "hehe... your dorky brother makes such a pretty little girl, eh, Remy?"

My nestling looks soooo cute in her little outfit and crib, don't you agree?~ A little bird-day gift for my sweet little chick, @silkyshine.bsky.social ~! You'll never truly grow up~

A picture of Princess Silky Shine, laying in a crib with tons of pillows, in a comfortable but restrictive bird-themed bondage outfit while Galah coos over her from off-screen.

She is wearing a yellow plush beak-gag, secured over her muzzle by an attached bridle, pink straps reaching behind her head to keep it in place. She has a soft pastel pink sleeper, with sleeves that cover her fores and bind her wings to them so that the wings follow their movements. There are zippers on these wingsleeves, secured with small golden padlocks.

Her sleeper has a set of gold snaps at the diaper flap as well as a big white heart on the front, the diaper flap and the openings for her hinds decorated with fluffy white frills. The shape of a thick diaper is suggested beneath. Her neck has a lacy collar, just below her crystal collar.

She is wearing a pair of white-and-yellow striped socks, with a pair of thick yellow hoofboots with clasping cuffs, and with little plush "claws" stitched onto their ends to make them look like the talons of a bird. Her horn is swirled in red magic with a "prohibited" symbol, negating her magic.

Her crib is filled with many pillows, as well as a plush egg and a green tiger plush. Silky has her hooves together in front of her as she looks up towards Galah with blush on her face and a meek expression.

Dialogue between Galah and Silky:
Galah: Aww! Good morning, baby bird!~ Slept well in your cozy nest, didn't you~?
Silky: Mm..! Mmf..
Galah: Oh, it's still SO cute how your wings follow your widdle hooves! Keeps those wings spanned in those comfy covers, hmm?~ Aww..!
Galah: Now, I'm sure my little hatchling needs a change by now..~
Silky: Mmff..! Mm-mm..
Galah: Hm~? Sorry sweetie! Mama can't understand your pony words past your beaky gag..~
