As a DM I am always in favor of splitting the party, having all 4 to 6 people in your party present for every scene feels profoundly unrealistic to me and you miss out on fun uses of dramatic irony and little personal moments between individual players imo. Also I get to kill my players.

This might be a hot take but I firmly believe KOTOR 1 is significantly better story than 2, I didn't really care for most of the original companions in 2 and I found Kreia especially annoying. KOTOR 1 feels like a classic SW adventure but 2 feels like it's trying too hard to reinvent the wheel

Best story MMO I can think of is SWTOR, branching paths, dialogue choices and interesting characters make each class's story engaging, personal favorite is the Jedi Knight, Bounty Hunter and Sith Warrior class stories (Smuggler is also fun if you enjoy large Mandalorian women)

There's the obvious answers of Kotor 1,2 and the MMO, but theres also a bunch of comics and novels that came out around the same time (I enjoyed Revan, Deceived and the Mando War era comics) but I also really enjoy Disneys new High Republic, namely Light of the Jedi and SW The High Republic (comics)

I think the issue is "hippie" doesn't mean anything now and has become largely divorced from the cultural movement that spawned it, I doubt the hippie kids that got gunned down at Kent State in 1970 were protesting for the retweets brand sponsorship deals on TikTok but that's the ecosystem now
