Yes, yes, I love shots that play around with background composition to create literal framing, yes, beautiful. I thought the first episode just looked fine animation-wise, but this one looks *great*.

Umi, Hikaru, and Fuu from Magic Knight Rayearth framed thematically in the birdcage in Presea's house.

There you are, you adorable little freak

Ah, they found the Great Plateau. Hyrule Castle can't be far.

I find myself immediately drawn to Hikaru. The purity and intensity of her earnest nature is very endearing.

ah, the halcyon days when an evil dude could just be a thousand pointed lines and flowing robes that are way too big

Two different Republican Collins'es are in midterm debates right now and both are getting their ass absolutely handed to them

I'm not sure how Iñárritu does it, but when *he* does "tortured artist explores their impact through overwrought, sociopolitical, melodramatic black comedy," I end up loving it.

I'll give it this: they are replicating the experience of watching an esport I've never played, never will play, and don't care about with sublime accuracy

This Dark Machine show is a series of random events and characters being confused as to why anything is happening, and I'm frankly in the same boat

A screenshot from DARK MACHINE the Animation. Two men stare each other down - one has a spilled plate of curry on his head.

Man: "What happened here? He's covered in curry."

The anime version especially just makes him look like an extra from Duel Masters

Aw yeah, it's the Yu-Gi-Oh! ripoff chapter, which means...

A screenshot from Super Psychic Policeman Chojo. Chojo with a slimy expression menacingly holds up a deck of 'Curse & Monsters' cards.

Chojo: "Nothing quite like slaughtering children with a deck built with taxpayer money."

Dozens of games are released every day, but I want to focus on one that hits this week. Penguin Colony It has a very clever pitch: what if you witnessed a Lovecraftian story in Antarctica through the eyes of the local penguins? But there's a LOT more happening here about indigenous art and artists

Penguin Colony on Steam

Disney execs, with Star Wars especially, want everything to be all according to their plan. They can't handle memes and ships and blorbos that organically form of their own accord. It has to be something they pushed for.

No Toei I don't need to see an episodic recounting of Battle of Gods AGAIN just because you're keeping the animation quality up this time. I'll wait for the Galactic Patrol adaptation.
