I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into scist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town.
Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming.
Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance.

The problem becomes, can we ever make more expert coders, if all the inexpert ones turn to AI? It took me a while to start using ChatGPT, because everything I was writing was stuff I'd done so many times before, that it wasn't any faster than me just writing it. I've found some uses, now, though.

Photoshop does a lot less damage to the environment. The young people I know are universally and vehemently against it for that reason. They don't seem to concerned about the other aspects of morality of AI the rest of us are debating.

Every time Indy turned out, Democrats won big. Obama in 2008. Donnelly in 2012. Bayh before that. We were the engine of statewide victories. But now? We’re running on empty. It doesn’t have to stay this way. If we rebuild, we can win again.

This is why Congress has oversight functions. Congress is currently making themselves completely irrelevant through inaction. At least, that's the message I sent my Republican Senators this morning.

My understanding is that Congress creates the agency, its powers, and budget, and the President has discretion on how to use those things. If the Executive branch fails to accomplish what has been set out by Congress, through incompetence, corruption, or firing all the employees, they are failing

Not sure I know, actually. It would increase government revenue until people stopped buying things from those countries. So, maybe it depends on the timeframe we are measuring. I've never seen that as the important question. Even if it does increase revenue, at what cost?

The story just keeps referring to "Americans" as the people who were polled. I wonder how this would be different, if they polled only likely voters. My hypothesis is this is the influence of the 40% of Americans who didn't vote.

@npr.org you almost got the point. Trump sees Fauci as former "Trump aide", and expects loyalty to Trump. I'm sure Fauci sees himself as a long-time government employee with loyalty to the country, something Trump can't imagine. I expect news organizations to know the difference.

I've also been realizing that a lot of younger Americans have never seen a functional US government. When we say we have to save our democracy, they don't actually know what we are talking about. They've only seen dysfunction and discord. Why would they want to save it?
