THE MEDUSA TOUCH (1978) feels like trying to find an IP to cash-in on the success of CARRIE (1976) but found some great source material to give a fun, investigative thriller. Day 4: Toilet. GHOULIES (1984). All I knew going in was it was a GREMLINS knock-off & had a toilet on the poster that only had a single shot in film. Went a lot harder into satanic panic than I anticipated. I hear Ghoulies 2 is where it's at tho, so next watch? #HQHalloween #FirstWatch #Horror

Day 3: Roach. I love a low-budget horror flick, and COCAINE ROACH (2025) did not disappoint. Like sure there wasn't a plot, questionable performances, and probably shot on a camcorder but it's okay. It was fun to watch while stoned and that's all I need. #HQHalloween #FirstWatch #Horror

Day 2: Snake. BEWARE BOIÚNA (2026). I low-key loved this one, and it was the opposite of 8LeggedFreaks in that it wisely kept the creature hidden in shadow for most of the film. #HQHalloween #FirstWatch #Horror #Theaters

Updating the first chunk today because it's my first day off in a hot minute. Day 1: Spider, EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS (2002). I loved the homage to 1950s creature features but the CGI did not age well. I mean did it even look good at the time? I highly doubt it. #HQHalloween #FirstWatch #Horror

Just got out of a showing of Beware Boiúna and it really is one of the best films at keeping the monster hidden in the dark, with intelligent camera shots, and behind set pieces that I’ve seen since at least the mid 90s. Even with CGI, horror can be so effective when you keep the monster hidden.

But it also prevents me from finding an excuse to not write. Like if I have mutiple projects I'm working on, at least one of them I have to put my 500 words a day into. No excuse not to. I can research for one or edit one, but still do 500 for something else.

the freedom to work on whichever project I'm feeling to most has been life-changing. I used to do the finish whatever I started first or whatever deadline is closest thing and that would sometimes mean pulling teeth. This way, I feel like it gives more creative energy and I can follow the dopamine.

I find my writing is most productive when I allow myself to jump between projects. Right now, writing a piece for my substack, a piece for my zine, two things for my contract writing job, and some other things that may or may not go anywhere.

I picked the perfect unhinged #firstWatch movie for tonight, the late 80s low budget horror flick DEATH SPA. Like a solid tenth of the movie is just B Roll of people working out with a weird storyline that isn’t sure if it’s sci-fi, paranormal, or like soap opera melodrama.

Day 23: Hates Feet BRAINSCAN. Okay really the hates feet scene is the only part of this movie that has any gore and it happens at the end of the first act. The rest of the movie is slow and has some half-baked horror/video games are bad alarmism that it can't figure out its stance on. #HQHalloween

Day 14: Letterboxd Bottom 500 WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY. This movie deserves its bottom 500. It could have been so nmuch more fun but it went tame with the WtP commentary and themes and heavy with low-budget gore so I guess it is what it is. #HQHalloween

I threw on something that's long been on my to watch list, MAZES AND MONSTERS. It definitely played a role in the pearl-clutching of the early satanic panic and the "evil" influence of games like Dungeons and Dragons. Movie sucked but even in his first r5ole, Tom Hanks shines.
