It's such absolute bollocks. If teenage me had put all my favourite types of music into a Magic Machine, it wouldn't in a million years generate Good Timin' by Jimmy Jones (a song which bafflingly moves me to tears) and also output Dust, Juice, Bones & Hair by Martha and Debussy's Arabesques.

My first public act on this birthday: go out and scoff a lovely Greek meal… and then discover I had my t-shirt on inside out!

Well, it's one of those 'you're really deep into your late-40s' type birthday days today. I never used to be bothered about getting older, but it's starting to seem a bit much, really, all these big numbers. Oh well, better go and have my 50000th cup of tea.

Back to the tea-time Golden Girls watch through. I see we’re on the last episode of series 2 (of 7) tonight. I cried during the last episode. Damn you Betty White.

I have seen The Chair Company. By coincidence I am now desperately trying to contact a chair company to buy some chairs and whilst things haven't gone weird yet, they seem to have the potential to.

I can be pathologically diplomatic when I need to be, although I should really have followed my own advice to people receiving unwarranted/rude digital communications, which is 'ignore it/block/tell all your mates about how annoying it was to get it off your chest and brain'.

This is the bookshop in which I spotted a copy of @outonbluesix.bsky.social’s excellent book about Children’s TV, so it’s very pleasing to know it’s had stock from both friends and family now!

A dear pal needed a piece of 'Won't Get Hit By Copyright Bots' music in the style of Left Bank Two - better known as the Gallery music from Vision On etc. (but you lot know that) - for his new Middle Elf Crisis miniature painting Y'tube channel. So I presented the following! (DON'T STEAL IT PLEASE)

My favourite thing to do? Add a tick to my list of P G Wodehouse books I’ve got and with today’s post of The Girl On The Boat I’ve now got everything from 1913 to 1977 and only five gaps to fill in the short period before that. Hooray!

Just watched Weapons. It was… fine. Maybe everyone who went absolutely mad for it has never seen an Evil Dead movie or basically any horror from the 80s? I don’t really watch horror movies so I was bracing myself for terrifying modern extremes and there just wasn’t any.

I've got a new phrase, which I think would sound good as something said by a 1920s/30s gangster: "I don't hold with a peppery egg, see?"

I may go to watch it again in the cinema tomorrow, but a different cinema, because I'm fairly sure that Odeon messed up the sound for the showing. (And this is a film with a soundtrack that needs to be HEARD!)

Yes, I did wear a 40 year old badge from a birthday card to the cinema to watch the 40th anniversary screening of The Transformers: The Movie (the greatest movie ever made).
Photo showing a badge on the author’s blue checked shirt. The badge has the autobot logo, the words Trans Formers and Autobot Ultra Magnus.

Just watched Pressure in the main screen at FACT in Liverpool. We two were the only people in there. Maybe it’s just because it was an early evening showing of a film about weather but that doesn’t seem sustainable.

Every time I have to click 'I Accept' on the Duo authentication screen at work, my brain immediately hears it as "I ACCEPT YOUR TERMS! I ACCEPT!" as screamed by Megatron in The Transformers: The Movie, whilst he's being psychically tortured by Unicron.
Megatron in the 1986 Transformers movie, screaming as he's tortured by Unicron. He's not happy.

Anyway, you don't have to have lived at the seaside to know that the volunteers of the RNLI are amongst the very best of us, but if you've grown up near the coast and seen the boats going out, you'll know that for absolute certain. Incredible people.

Absolutely right'n'proper that the Nintendo Direct for Zelda's 40th anniversary started with an orchestral suite of music from the games. Koji Kondo is a brilliant composer and the fact that they're going to be doing a world tour of the music is rightly deserved. x

It’s Bank Holiday here in England, so it feels like it’s still the weekend, so the appearance of the ongoing Swanboy story this afternoon has felt like a real bonus.
