Fleet Foxes lyrics Are somehow very relevant for life in HEP-ex 😂
Screenshot of lyrics:

[Verse 1]
I was raised up believing
I was somehow unique
Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes
Unique in each way you'd conceive
And now after some thinking
I'd say I'd rather be
A functioning cog in some great machinery
Serving something beyond me

We had these two striking 8 TeV dijet pairs events in Run 2, resulting in a 3.8sigma local excess Unfortunately haven't seen any in Run3 yet 🫤

Very cool new analysis! Due to the crazy data volume, standard data streams throw away >99.99% of collisions at the LHC But what if we didn't have to? For the first time CMS has performed a search using data processed on hardware in real time (40 million / sec) !

From the most recent one: "In this letter, we have applied goofy transformations to the SM, thereby also extending them to include the fermion sector. We have shown that all SM interactions are invariant under the appropriate goofy transformations, while the Higgs-mass term is forbidden."
In this letter, we have applied goofy transformations
to the SM, thereby also extending them to include the
fermion sector. We have shown that all SM interactions
are invariant under the appropriate goofy transformations, while the Higgs-mass term is forbidden. Goofy
symmetry can thus provide a new means to solve the
hierarchy problem. Since, unlike shift symmetry, it is
not broken explicitly by SM interactions, goofy symmetry renders a small Higgs mass technically natural in the
’t Hooft sense.
We also explored simple goofy-symmetric extensions of
the SM, including a scalar singlet, vector-like fermions,
and higher-dimensional operators, demonstrating how
massive states can emerge via spontaneous goofy symmetry breaking. A typical prediction would be new states
related to this symmetry breaking, such as a scalar singlet around the TeV scale. This could also furnish a dark
matter candidate.
It would be interesting to explore how further puzzles could be addressed in (extensions of) the goofysymmetric SM. Examples are the generation of a viable
baryon asymmetry (potentially via an enlarged scalar
sector, such as in III A, enhancing the electroweak phase
transition), the strong CP problem, the generation of
small neutrino masses, and the question of grand unification. Finally, also the mathematical foundations of
goofy transformations, including connections to spacetime symmetries, and the mechanism of spontaneous
goofy symmetry breaking should be further scrutinized
on the way of establishing them as a route in model building.Goofy, in awe of the nominative powers of theoretical physics.

A sprawling, textured field of galaxies scattered across the deep black of space. It is filled with the delicate smudges and glowing cores of galaxies of many shapes, sizes and colors, as well as the bright multi-colored points of stars. The image focuses on a collection of interacting galaxies connected by delicate streams of stars. At top center lies a large elliptical galaxy that is dense and smooth, like a polished stone glowing with golden light. Like delicate spider silk or stretched taffy, these stellar bridges link the large elliptical to the few larger galaxies beneath, evidence of past collisions.

All throughout the image, thousands of galaxies gather in clusters or are spread throughout, like glittering gems strewn on a table. Some are sharp-edged and spiral, like coiled ribbons; others round and diffuse, like polished pebbles. Still others are just smudges of various colors against the black of space. The background is peppered with pinpoint stars in reds, yellows, and blues, crisp against the velvet black. A cosmic tapestry of glowing tan and pink gas clouds with dark dust lanes. In the upper right, the Trifid Nebula resembles a small flower in space. Its soft, pinkish gas petals are surrounded by blue gas, and streaked with dark, finger-like veins of dust that divide it into three parts. It radiates a gentle, misty glow, diffuse and soft like the warmth of breath on a cold hand. To the lower left, the much larger Lagoon Nebula stretches wide like a churning sea of magenta gas, with bright blue, knotted clumps sprinkled throughout where new stars are born. Both nebulae are embedded in a soft tan backdrop of gas that is brighter on the left than on the right, etched with dark tendrils of dust and sprinkled with the pinpricks of millions of stars.A sprawling, textured field of galaxies scattered across the deep black of space. To the lower left is a region filled with the hundreds of golden glittering gems of a distant galaxy cluster. In the foreground, below and right of center, two blue spiral galaxies look like eyes beneath the entangled mass of a triple galaxy merger in the upper right. A few bright blue points of foreground stars pierce the glittering tapestry.

CMS is seeing an unexpected excess of top quarks in their data. But what is causing it? Signs are pointing to 'toponium' an unstable bound state of two top quarks, which was previously thought impossible to form! Read more in the newest ParticleBites! www.particlebites.com?p=10001
