In Deutschland gibt es inzwischen knapp 40% Frauen bei den Neueinschreibungen für den Bachelor in Physik. Beim Master sind es aber immer noch nur 26%. (Zahlen vom WS25/26 erhoben von der DPG).

Der DB Navigator behauptet, dass mein Umstieg in Bern von Gleis 6 nach Gleis 7 am selben Bahnsteig stattfindet. Allerdings sind in Bern die Gleise 5&6 und 7&8 jeweils an einem Bahnsteig. Solche Daten die sich nur ändern sollten doch einfach einzupflegen sein.

Quick thoughts on LZ's dark matter result. Because I know that's what everyone is waiting for. Usual caveat that I'm a theorist and I don't build experiments, which is good for me and for the experiments. I do write papers on dark matter direct detection, though some of those gears are a bit rusty.

If you don't have proper eclipse glasses / filters, try a pinhole camera ... When the sun is whole, images will be circles. When partially eclipsed they will be crescents. You can use a colander or even a Ritz Biscuit. Find out more in my book "Up - a scientist's guide to the magic above us"

Meetings bis um 5, dann das Kind aus der Kita abgeholt Essen gemacht, und das Kind überraschend schnell ins Bett gebracht. Da bleibt zum Glück etwas mehr Zeit um gleich weiter Vorträge vorzubereiten und Drittmittelanträge zu schreiben. Entspannt forschen im Mittelbau 🫠

Hochenergetische Teilchen aus einem Teilchenbeschleuniger würde man als bläulichen Lichtschimmer wahrnehmen wenn sie einem durch das Auge fliegen. Die Teilchen erzeugen dabei sogenannte Cerenkov-Strahlung weil sie sich schneller als Licht im Auge bewegen.

Wir hatten keinen Bafög-Anspruch und meine Eltern konnten meinen Bruder und mich zum Glück während des Studiums unterstützen. Beide haben dafür voll gearbeitet. Ich konnte mir auch immer als Tutor/HiWi etwas dazuverdienen, aber meinen Lebensunterhalt hätte ich allein davon nicht bestreiten können.

Wer unter 6 J. für die Promotion gebraucht hat, konnte bislang ungenutzte Befristungszeit als Postdoc aufbrauchen. Laut Referentenentwurf soll das nicht mehr möglich sein. Der Anreiz also: Möglichst lange brauchen & 6 Jahre ausreizen. Fehlanreiz für Promovierende, Schaden für Postdocs. 🤦🏻‍♀️ #WissZeitVG

Zeit war wie immer bei solchen Besuchen sehr knapp, aber hoffentlich haben sie Abgeordneten mitgenommen wie wichtig die deutschen Beiträge sind

That's a wrap on protons at the LHC! 💥 Today, the ATLAS experiment closed the chapter on proton-proton data-taking at the LHC. Since 2010, ATLAS has recorded over 500 fb⁻¹ of proton collision data – an incredible dataset that will enable high-precision measurements and searches for new physics.
