Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 12hSadly, Nail and Crescent, as it was, has gone to the great game dev studio in the sky. Here are some critter designs I brought to life for the project that will probably never see the light of day. Sprony is leading a new team to complete his vision of the project and I wish them well. 121
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I've posted him before, but here is a colour correction for my spook-tober Zombie. I actually sculpted him with a skeleton inside the base mesh. to get the bones poking out in the right places. #zombie #spooktober 021
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Since we are in Spooky Season, here are a bunch of sprite monster and ghouls I made for an old Duke Nukem 3D mod that was strangled before birth. I have far too many models from failed mods on my hard drive. 120
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I love nodes, but when they get to a certain level of noodleiness, my little brain refuses to play ball. Have you thought of using alphas? I used to use a graphic with a fade on it and wrapped that around the engine. I used a colourramp to give fade lighting to my Umbrella ship's volumetric exhaust 100
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 06/10/2026It's probably actually The Wizard of Oz because we put that on every year, but non-enforced, I'd say it was this one: 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 05/10/2026New character for A Dog Named Fate. One of two policemen who are going to have the worst days of their lives. Normally, I create a character with a full production workflow. I start in ZBrush and create a sculpted high poly and then bake down to a low poly. I tried just poly-modelling it. 041
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Made this for the 'Nail and Crescent' mod. 020
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026This is a vision of what Duke Nukem's Pig Cops would look like with a lot of extra pixels. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Got some stuff done on my little animated film project. Blocked out some shots and got one of my sets up to where it can be shot. 081
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026More Severance stuff. Here's a link to the ModDB page: www.moddb.com/mods/severance 010
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I did this fan for a long deceased Doom 3 mod called 'Severance'. There was a cryo-pod and and some critters as well. Yet another game mod project that evaporated leaving me with load of half-finished assets on my hard drive. Sigh. 021
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Things are actually happening quite quickly now. I have about 9 shots roughed out, 3 characters rigged and another major set built. I plan to keep iterating through time to get the best results, but it's actually happening. 031
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Another animation test. This is pretty close to the shot in the film (the whole thing is under 10 minutes long and all electronic, is it really 'film'?). I'm refining basic animation as I've never done anything this complex before. 011
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I wrote out a whole plot outline for the 1950's saucer movie that appears at the beginning of the short. This would have taken 3 decades to film so it all went - quite rightly. Even this guy, which is sad. He's at a very early point here, but it would have been fun to develop him. Maybe one day. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Oh dear. Things are actually progressing on 'A Dog Named Fate'. It's sat there and progressed in drips and drabs for a decade. 152
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I have a box of this. I don't know if I dare open it. I have it's cursed twin that I sampled. ... it was... it was... ... "Different" 120
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 20/09/2026A drawing I did in charcoal of a live model. 161
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 13/09/2026These are test images I did for a client recently. The idea is a nuclear powered probe to Europa. The version IV of Starship would be the transport. 3214
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Cycles and Eevee are amazing. I still miss YAFARAY though. Back before cycles came along, it was so far ahead of Blender's internal scanline renderer. Much praise for other renderers of the time such as Indigo, Lux Render and Octane. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 12/09/2026After a decade of interruptions, detours and procrastination, I've finally bit the bullet and tried to rig and animate the characters for my personal project: A Dog Named Fate. The project started over 10 years ago and it's taken me this long to put everything else aside and get to work. 122
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I think we got up to 38. Right at the end we went from A5 up to A3. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 11/09/2026We covered this so many times in for our small press magazine 'Thermal Lane'. We actually had the production office request we send them a copy each month. This series was just so good. 120
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Had a playblast from the past today. I've been working on this project for a decade and I keep getting sidetracked. I'm finally getting stuff done. I've looked back over my project files and there are playblast animations of scenes from 2015. Back then it took 20 minutes to output a frame. 141
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 10/09/2026"I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn." 010
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I love that lino print. we used to do these in school.. It reminds me of a simpler time when art was made by hand. Thanks for sharing that and reminding me that it didn't used to be all digital. Oh, here's my green art. 121
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Cool! I always wanted to take a crack at this. It's looking good so far. If it's 1940/1950 era it should look a bit more manufactured. Something like this: 110
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I think if they told you that you'd have days like this as an animator, I think less people would heed the calling. I was fixing some weight painting on my character, went to dinner, came back, logged in and: YEAAAAAHHHH! 010
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 31/08/2026BRRRRAAAAAIIIIIINNSSSSS!!!!!! I got back to some texturing on a zombie game model for a mate of mine who is revamping an old EDuke32 Polymer mod. He's had to wait a while as I've been up to my tits in producing a range of Doctor Who 3D prints. It's nice to get back to some texturing/painting again! 011
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Graham, you do brilliant work! You should expect a lot of followers! Tagging along was our pleasure, be assured. Here is one of my favourite pieces, if not my best. 170
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Believe it or not, I've actually got some work done on my little animated film that I've been working on for the past decade or so. Just so we are on the same page, that's not me. Really. Honest. Fersure! 040
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 10/08/2026One of my favourite ancient shooter games got (yet another) update by those fine people over at Machine Games. They have really outdone themselves (again) and I would like to say thank you for letting me enjoy storming new levels in Quake well into the 21st Century. Lock and load grunts! 010
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 03/08/2026without downloading new pics, what's it like dating you? 010
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 26/07/2026I had the pleasure of finding this in my local 2nd hand bookstore. It had the awful Masterworks cover, but oh well. The cover I originally read it with back in the 1970s. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 18/07/2026I'm a boomer and thought that the translucent tech boom was the best thing to happen since the Macintosh. I love all that stuff. I even have a TV ripper that is translucent blue! One of these days I'm going to get a candy iMac - once I find somewhere to put it. 000
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Oh, it's #PortfolioDay eh? Well, here goes. My name is Owen Richards. I'm a 3D artist who does game characters and props as well as space art. 031
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 14/07/2026I love this era. Much like they went hog-wild trying to shoe-horn Gemini into different applications, there are so many crazy yet wonderful ideas at this time. I made a model of the Space Tug that was proposed, and of course, never flew. 060
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 13/07/2026Made it to Small Space down in Hanslope. This was my second year and it was a load of fun. It's a small event, but there is a lot to see. 011
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Working on a model of a 1960's 'Tomb' Cyberman. 110
Owen Richards @owenrichardscgi.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I’ve been prototyping a 3D printed model of The Spar spacecraft from the recently recovered Dalek Masterplan episodes of Doctor Who. 010
