Canadaland has been leading the way to Conspiracyland on this important story from the start. Now, with a new journalist behind the wheel, what do I make of this latest update?

the technology is not going to disappear. a few companies will maybe go bankrupt. railroads went under and trains didn’t poof. like the most that might happen is that it gets more expensive for a bit.

The website, www.tracemyip.org also captures other metadata information that might not be included in standard web logging (like screen resolution). It can however help establish a stronger social conversation than IP address alone (which is likely what Brown was doing here).

Two things I’m not sure is widely understood: 1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces 2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them

People not in Minnesota: please read this excellent summary of what life is like in Minneapolis since the murderous scum ICE swarmed here. And more are on their way. By local reporter / writer / bike dude / legend @dbrauer.net .
Text: “A friend said those of us who live in Minneapolis should write about what's going on here for folks who live elsewhere. You need to know that whether you're a Republican, Independent or Democrat, the Constitution is being violated by our federal government. This is not about catching criminals, or even deporting people. It is about punishing an entire state, including
citizens, for not supporting the president. Everyone in my part of Minneapolis is affected. On our streets, ICE is stopping people of color and demanding their papers. In America. US citizens do not have to prove citizenship to ICE. Yet people are being intimidated, some cases beaten up and detained, for requiring ICE to follow the law. ICE needs a judicial warrant to enter homes. Yet there are documented cases of them
ignoring the law - violating a bedrock constitutional principle. Americans of color are staying home, afraid to go to work, school, to grocery shop, or fill their cars with gas. This isn't just "illegals" or immigrants with valid work permits, it is citizens who have had their cars rammed by ICE for merely looking Hispanic. Businesses are closing. Schools are 50 percent full. When they are open, fascists are calling in bomb threats because the
president decided to make us a meme. After a daycare teacher with a valid work permit (through 2030) was snatched from her workplace, parents (and grandparents) have had to organize to watch their SCHOOLS, to make sure conditional rights are observed. This is being repeated throughout Minnesota. Imagine trying to do your job or live you life while also taking volunteer shifts to make sure the federal
government doesn't act extrajudicially.
Because of ICE's documented abuses, neighbors have organized to monitor federal actions. This observation is legal, as long as it doesn't interfere with a valid action. Yet since ICE killed Renee Good, they are increasingly stopping this observation, breaking car windows and …”

For anyone who missed it on Facebook, the guest, Dave Meslin, has indicated that the final lines in the episode misrepresent what he sent in an email, even after an initial correction. You can read Dave's words (as well as Jesse's response) here: www.facebook.com/595706967/po...
Earlier this week, the Canadaland podcast released an episode that fabricated a statement from me and used that fabrication to frame a false narrative.

The episode concludes with an anecdote, allegedly from me, about protesters shouting antisemitic chants through a megaphone at a pro-Palestine event in Toronto organised by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM).

This anecdote is a lie. I’ve participated in many pro-Palestine events in Toronto including marches organized by PYM. Not once have I witnessed the slightest hint of antisemitism by the organizers, nor the attendees. The fabricated anecdote is an intentional conflation of two unrelated stories.

I asked Canadaland to retract the statement, but they chose to dig in their heels by posting a feigned “correction” that doubled-down on the falsehood.

As someone whose family left their Synagogue of the past decade over that organization's continued support for Israel and genocide, they're not *entirely* wrong. Thankfully, we're starting to see an explosion of implicitly and explicitly anti-zionest congregations popping up in Toronto as a result.

You do realize your second example there is from a Canadian account, and that "Liberal" in this context refers to the Liberal Party of Canada (currently in power)? A party that, under its new leader, has moved right of center (instead of just left of center where it historically sat)?

Sorry, you're saying PP is worse than the federal party leader who advocated for Canada becoming a white ethnostate (Bernier)? And again, PP being worse (or even the 'worst') does not make Carney 'good' (they can both be bad).
230
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 05/09/2025
PP being bad does not make Carney good; it's not a zero sum game. Maxime Bernier is more openly racist than Poilievre, does that mean PP is a good option that we should all support, because there exists a worse option? Of course not.

What lie? One of the main reasons genocide is covered under its own convention is that it is *never* justified. There are no 'circumstances' that justify or excuse it.

Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
I literally quoted from the genocide convention in the post you're responding to. If you're not going to take a few minutes to read it so you know what you're talking about, or seems clear you have no interest in the truth.

Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
That said, it shouldn't be surprising that you're dismissing evidence and pushing propaganda considering you've also suggested Palestinians 'deserve' genocide: bsky.app/profile/agij... No group deserves genocide.
200
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
It is Israel's actions designed to "destroy, in whole or in part," the Palestinians in Gaza that constitute genocide, as has been identified by numerous independent and humanitarian groups, including those *based in Israel*
300
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Other urban warfare like the fighting in Srebrenica (a genocide)? You are just repeating Israeli talking points with no actual evidence, opposed to the contradictory reporting, including video and photo evidence, from many independent sources.
100
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
As for Hamas, I don't know why they won't surrender (though I can imagine several possible reasons). However, again, the actions of Hamas have *nothing* to do with whether or not Israel has committed the crime of genocide.
110
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
There is in fact lots of evidence; 3rd party sourced or corroborated reports of mass civilian deaths and civilians being targeted, widespread famine, large scale destruction of civilian infrastructure, as well as direct statements from senior Israeli officials on their intent.
111
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Many genocides take place during a war (Srebrenica Genocide during the Bosnian War, the Holocaust during WWII). Again, I would suggest you read the a Genocide Convention so you're better informed. It's not long, probably wouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
110
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Additionally, his main argument, that it's not genocide because Israel _could_ have killed even more is nonsensical. Germany likely _could_ have killed more Jews during WW2 if they abandoned the war and put all efforts towards the Holocaust; that doesn't mean the Holocaust wasn't a genocide.
120
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Unfortunately, an NYT columnist is not a definitive voice on international law, especially one who's a well documented racist.

Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Not sure what you mean be "there had to be an actual genocide first [for there to be a genocide];" that's a tautology that sidesteps the actual issue.

That's fair, and you may be right. To be clear, I never said "Jews are the oppressor" and don't believe that. I do think that in North America, Jews (at least those who support Israel) are generally closer to power than Palestinians, hence the pushback at centering Jewish feelings at this time.

Sorry, I wasn't saying Jewish people are white, just as I didn't think you were saying they're Japanese. Antisemitism is still very much a thing, much like police brutality against white people is a thing. However, there's a big difference between the level of threat faced by black vs white people.
000
Owen Lawson @owencpl.bsky.social · 25/05/2025
As for the Japanese Internment, that feels like a stretch. I personally think a much better comparison would be white people during the BLM protests, and how it was not a moment to point out (even by abolitionists) that the police sometimes kill white people too.

I think I saw the original post you're responding to, and if so I don't think the intent of it was that American Jews "deserve" to feel uncomfortable, but more that the "comfort" of American Jews (even anti-zionist ones) shouldn't be a priority at this moment in time.
