Taiko no Tatsujin is changing the fonts used in the arcade version of the game. Likely a result of Monotype's acquisition of Fontworks and their decision to hike up prices more than tenfold. Even though it was sort of walked back, it got developers rattled enough to ditch them entirely.

A screenshot of the official Taiko no Tatsujin Twitter page, with the following content (translated from Japanese):
【Notice Regarding In-Game Font Changes】
Starting from August 19, 2026 (Wed) at 7:00, some of the fonts used in "Taiko no Tatsujin (Arcade Version)" will be updated to new ones.

Due to this font change, some displays or text appearances may differ from before, but please rest assured that it will not affect gameplay in any way.

We look forward to your continued support for "Taiko no Tatsujin (Arcade Version)."
