extended thoughts on hank green

RE: hank green — the internet cannot make me hate him and this feels like the time the mob bullied lindsay ellis off the internet.

a lot of people in the wider discourse clearly don't follow hank. he's a workaholic with ADHD, so he constantly has the drive to produce more and more stuff. he has also been openly pro-AI and has discussed at length how he uses it (quite responsibly at that). the mob just finally caught onto it. to them, any AI usage is objectively evil to them and their assumption of AI capabilities is google AI search from two years ago, so now they think his videos must be hallucinated disasters. in reality: everything is still done by him, the research is just 10x faster now (and still reviewed by him) so he can do more. it's not cognitive offloading in this case, he's just doing more with the same level of effort.

hank's response feels more like post-hoc rationalization of what the mob says tbh. like he's backpedalling because others are telling him AI usage is inherently wrong, and he's taking their word over his own. in a perfect world IMO he should be slowing down his content (he uploads *a lot*), and focus his AI productivity brain to actual initiatives/projects instead of another video. but he really doesn't seem like the type who can do such a thing.

idk this entire saga is gonna continue the chilling effect where people are not gonna stop using AI, they're just going to stop being transparent about their AI usage. the only reason this saga happened is because hank has been one of the only youtubers who openly shares the scope of his AI usage
