Finished “George Washington, A Life” tonight and Audible showed me this stat. Took me a moment, but 13 April was the day I flew home after saying goodbye to my mom who died early the next morning

Ok Standard Time, I’m ready for you (I am not at all ready, but at least the kid’s playgrove is now well lit)

You buy four pairs of snowshoes from an online bookstore and it thinks it knows you.
Screenshot of an “About you” beta personalization page in a shopping app. The “Interests & Hobbies” tab is selected, showing one inferred interest: “Likely snowshoes regularly in winter.” Other visible tabs include Brands and Departments.

We just need to start teaching effective focal length in elementary school like they do in Europe (a fact I just made up). If I had a dollar for everyone busting a move at 30yds while I’m holding a 16mm lens…

…because honestly your posing is distracting to the auto focus and half the time you’re too late and end up covering the face of the runner behind you

As I begin tonight’s journey of scrolling through 13,681 photos, I take a moment to pause and ask runners to, if you truly feel compelled to pose for the camera, please hold the pose far longer than you think you should. But really how about you just lift your head up and open your eyes…

More than 24 hr after it started, a NWS comms issue continues with multiple missing radars and offices providing service backup. These sort of outages seem to be worsening in spite of the fact the vulnerabilities have been known for more than 2 decades. balancedweather.substack.com/p/comms-issu...

Lying in the hammock with my 3yo staring up at the trees… “After you die I will miss you,” she says. “But after I’m dead I won’t be able to watch TV.”
Upward-looking view from a hammock through a dense deciduous forest canopy, with tall tree trunks converging toward a ceiling of mostly green leaves. Small patches of yellow and orange foliage appear among the trees, showing the beginning of fall color.

I really need to get back on the road, but…

Turns out a place called “Oakton” that’s full of tall mature oak trees isn’t as good a place for sky watching as the top of a 200’ ridge overlooking a river valley

Photographing an adventure race this morning. First time I covered it, 26 years ago, I used my trusty Sony Mavica with 640x480 resolution. It took 1 photo/10 seconds and the 1.44MB “memory card” (floppy disk) held about 10 images. Things go a little faster now and my 512GB card holds a few more pics

Morning fog drifts in low bands through a green, wooded valley, partially obscuring the trees and fields. Sunlight illuminates the foreground while distant peaks rise above the fog beneath a clear blue sky.

Tonight in the valley
A s’more is held in the foreground beside a brightly burning smokeless fire pit. Beyond it, the wooded valley and the mountains of the Fort Valley are silhouetted against a fading yellow-and-blue sunset, with a house and elevated deck at right.Flames rise from a fire pit at dusk beneath the elevated deck, illuminating the dark structure in orange-red light. Warm interior light glows through the house windows against a deepening blue evening sky.A marshmallow roasts over orange flames in a fire pit at night, held on a metal roasting stick with a circular turtle-shaped detail. The fire and glowing rim of the pit stand out against an otherwise black background. The Milky Way forms a faint, mottled band through a densely star-filled night sky above the dark silhouette of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A few distant lights dot the horizon and valley below.
