Walking, biking, and rolling can be scary. You can help. The Our Streets Board is hosting their annual fundraiser, Nightmare on Our Streets. There will be pizza, mystery prizes, and opportunities to connect with fellow transportation advocates. 🎨: Dane Hart, Our Streets Board Member

Do you think you can go a week without driving? People without a car and those unable to drive often face barriers getting around reliably in our communities. From October 1-8, we invite you to make the pledge and challenge yourself to not drive for a week.

Hello, my name is _ _ _ _ _ _ and I'm calling to ask Governor Walz to pause the Rethinking I-94 project, restore transformative alternatives, and re-evaluate the project's goals and evaluation criteria.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address the harm caused when the highway was built through communities like Rondo and Cedar-Riverside. We shouldn't rush into a decision that could narrow our choices or lock us into rebuilding the same infrastructure that created these harms. It's time to act. Pause the Rethinking I-94 project. Thank you.

Public streets are public infrastructure, not a testing ground for private technology companies that will take jobs from Minnesota workers and undercut our progress towards a more safe, accessible, and equitable transportation system.
Protect our neighbors. protect our workers. Workers drive Minneapolis. Public Comment Opportunity. Sept 22 & 29 at 1:30pm. Minneapolis city hall. Without regulations, commercial automated vehicles could pose significant safety risks, disrupt traffic, undermine the City’s transportation and sustainability goals, and displace thousands of rideshare workers. Come testify to support our neighbors and workers over tech billionaires!

Lead canvasser Greg Hindy reflected on his conversations at the door.
Canvassing to block the 252 expansion is some of the best freeway fighting experience out there right now. Unlike the other projects we canvass for, where the freeway is already the status quo and we’re pitching a change for the better, 252 is just at the beginning of its journey.

If it becomes a freeway, I can imagine people will get used to it, and then canvassers in 60 years will have their work cut out for them trying to convince residents to tear it down.

Join us in asking decision-makers to close the project’s funding gap, complete a strong federal application this summer, and plan ahead to build the extension with anti-displacement protections in place.
In today’s hostile federal environment, a local delay alone is a decision that threatens the project’s completion. Every month without a plan increases the project’s cost and puts $753 million in federal funding at risk—roughly 21% of the project’s total cost.

We ask you to use your authority to publicly defend this important transit investment for Minnesota and to transparently share your plan and timeline.

At the end of the June 3rd PAC meeting, community members had one minute to provide public comment on the Rethinking I-94 project. One after another, we heard people asking @mndot.mn.gov to pause the project. We know a better future is possible.
Quote from Atticus D. at the June 3rd PAC meeting:

I grew up and still live in the Rondo neighborhood. I want to reiterate this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make this decision.

The damage that the highway has caused this neighborhood is almost unmeasurable, and really looking into at how infrequent these kind of decisions are.

This is our only opportunity, in the lifetime of anyone who was directly affected by the creation of the highway, to really see any justice. And because of that, I really think we should demand a pause on the project.

"TWIN CITIES BOULEVARD
Both cities are demanding accountability from MnDOT. The June 3rd Rethinking I-94 Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting went as expected: MnDOT dismissing frustration from the PAC and public. Minnesota elected officials joined together to send a letter to MnDOT and Governor Walz to pause the Rethinking I-94 and Trunk highway 252/I-94 projects.
A letter from Minnesota House Representatives and Minnesota Senate to Governor Walz and MnDOT Commssioner Nancy Daubenberger to pause the Rethinking I-94 and Trunk Highway 252/I-94 projects. An excerpt from the letter and above it reads: "The Rethinking I-94 and Trunk Highway 252/I-94 corrdiors present a once-in-a-generation opportunity to repair historic and ongoing harms."Transparent photo of highway I-94 in the background and an excerpt from the letter: "A pause is necessary now. We cannot expect authentic engagement while communities are navigating fear, economic strain, and political instability. [...] These are decisions that will shape our region for the next 50 to 100 years. Rushing forward under these conditions risks outcomes that are not only flawed, but irreversible."End of the letter with Minnesota legislators names, titles, district they serve, and signatures.
