The transition just isn't happening fast enough. We need more investment from the ScotGov. Workers shouldn't be punished for government inaction.

"the experience of workers at Grangemouth and
across Scotland's wider oil industry is a
profoundly unjust transition. It's one of
unemployment and false promises that have been
made to them at Holyrood and Westminster.” - Dr. Ewan Gibbs University of Glasgow

Scotland's energy future demands more ambition. With the right leadership, we could all be benefitting from our renewables. But, right now the only ones benefitting are private corporations and their share holders.

There have been a few bits out in the press lately about whether communities should get a benefit payment from proposed data centres like they do with wind projects. Here's a 🧵 on what they're missing.

🛠️ A new report on the North Sea Transition details substantial job losses in the oil and gas industry. We need the Scottish Government to stand up for workers and use their Just Transition Fund and make bring more green jobs to workers here in Scotland!

The Scottish government needs to put its £500 million Just Transition Fund to use and bring more of the renewables supply chain and the jobs that come with it here in Scotland." Logo: OurPower.scot.

Scotland risks losing thousands more skilled North Sea workers and crucial industrial capability unless the UK government takes urgent action, a new report has warned.

The North Sea Transition Taskforce said oil and gas activity is declining faster than offshore wind, carbon capture, hydrogen and other emerging industries are growing, threatening the jobs, investment and supply chain needed to deliver the energy transition.

Community-owned wind turbines are transforming local towns in Scotland. Instead of energy profits going to distant corporations, these communities own their power and use 100% of the profits to fund local projects.

It's just economics. The more private wealth, the less public wealth and the less we benefit. Community, municipal, and public ownership is how we take our power back.

It mentions that offshore wind ownership is also primarily non-domestic. The image questions why ownership matters.A business meeting setting with people seated at a table. Only £25.6 billion of the £88.6bn expected to be spent developing 16 of Scotland's offshore wind sites are earmarked for Scottish industry. The Scottish government needs an industrial strategy that puts our workers and communities first! bit.ly/4yLEAeI
A landmark offshore wind programme hailed by Scotland's former First Minister as a "truly historic" opportunity is now set to deliver a multi-billion-pound budget boom to foreign firms, while leaving Scotland with around £6 billion less than expected.

Crown Estate Scotland analysis seen by the Herald shows only £25.6 billion of the £88.6bn expected to be spent developing the giant offshore wind projects is currently earmarked for Scotland. Had developers maintained the same Scottish spending share they forecast in 2023, more than £32bn would now be expected to flow into Scotland's economy.

Comparing the same 16 offshore wind developments in 2023 and 2026, it can be revealed that Scotland's expected share of supply-chain spending has fallen from around 36 per cent to just over 29 per cent - with the gap amounting to £6bn.
