Confident going into the midterms or predicting the death of the GOP? In the 1974 midterms after Nixon resigned in disgrace, dems swept the elections by wide margins, winning a veto-proof majority in the house, 4 seats in the senate, and 13 governorships. Reagan was elected in 1980.
