The crane game also runs an okayish 40fps, and is a bit glitchy, but is such a good fit that I think I'm going to have to make this work. I'll get back to working on this after the office game is done, so maybe later this year.

Yess, the device finally has its shitter app.

Here's the office game's Linux build running 50fps on the Pocket Nova + ArmadaOS. This game and its awkward keyboard-first controls isn't the best fit for the handheld, but the 320x240 resolution is just perfect for the Nova's 4:3 screen.

Just got my Pocket Nova in the mail. I'll write a blog post about this later, as I get ArmadaOS installed, and get to know this thing better. The size feels just right for my small hands, though the ergonomics are quite rough. The display also needed a better calibration profile.

I've left quite a few social media platforms without any prior notice, so this time I'm trying to do better... When I'm gone, you can reach me on: - ottoojala.com (blog, rss, email, guestbook) - ottoojala.itch.io (play my games) - ko-fi.com/ottoojala (if you're feeling generous and can't help it)

Put on my big person pants yesterday and finally got some sort of scoring added to the game. You'll get points for time, and the objects you get in the hole, and a big bonus for not farting (like in the gif), and a penalty for using cheats.

I'd love if it was easier to get games published on these as they're perfect for lightweight indie games. Currently, getting a Godot game on the PortMaster catalogue makes you jump through quite a few hoops.

Inspiring replies! 🙏 I hope writing them down sparked positive thoughts. I think restoring (and buying and selling) old stuff, like electronics and furniture, is dream job material to me. Or maybe photography, or carpentry. Gamedev has been absolutely excellent as a hobby, can recommend.

Game developers, what's your fallback career? Or better yet, your dream job outside #gamedev?

The office generation is random, which mostly produces pretty generic rooms, but every once in a while you get a room with just a few objects. Like a set of weights and a camcorder, perfect for a motivating workout session. And a cabinet for warming up.

That's my face! Thanks Florian for the interview! It feels super nice whenever someone mentions you or something you've made on an actual website, not just on social media. Feels so much more like an actual thing. Write blogs, mention people, make it real, ???, PROFIT.

I'm probably connecting it just to my RPI4, which has composite video too, so I was thinking of getting a cheaper RCA to RF modulator instead, but a HDMI to RF would be more general purpose (and fun) I guess.

The basic Bsky RSS feed doesn't include the posts' image/video thumbnails unfotunately. If you want to stay on Bsky, I'd suggest using lists instead of feeds. I think the feeds are only good for finding people to add to your lists (or their actual blogs to your RSS reader).

Found this little noise maker from the flea market today for 5 euros. It's got a BW screen, but maybe it'd still be worth it to get an RF modulator to actually display stuff on it? Happened to have just the right power adapter for it, too. Never throw those away :---)

#ScreenshotSaturday Tweaking the joint parameters made the character physics a little more stable. (Still, I suspect first-time players have about a 0% chance of getting that door open...) Also: -added more partcile effects. -the skin parts of the character are now grippier than the clothed parts.

Yeah, there's a chance this iteration of the logo sends the wrong message...
A "human-made" logo with fingers making the As, and the rest of the letters finger-painted with red color.

The weird thing is, it is surprisingly intuitive to fly in this (if you've been playing for a year - if not, probably not so much).

Otto Ojala @ottoojala.com · 16/09/2026
I'm not sure if this needs scores, but I could make it so that you get points for the stuff you throw in the hole, or if you finish the level quick enough, or maybe bonus points for not farting at all.

Otto Ojala @ottoojala.com · 16/09/2026
Here's what the whole game looks like currently - now with the "between offices" part added. It just fades to black as you fart-fly far enough, and starts the next level. Or you can also use the console to start it. (The second office has a light switch on the wall. Didn't remember this had them.)

Cool. Took me quite a few clicks to get to drawing anything with it but I'm sure this is nice once you get used to how it works.

Thanks! Affinity was smart enough to block the first two temp emails I tried using, so maybe it's not for me, but Graphite feels like something I could use :---) I also found some minor annoyances in Vectorholic already, so I might still have to shop around.

I also read a bit about webmentions, but I'm afraid they might actually just ruin indieweb for me. WarpPoint is kind of interesting (www.warppoint.games) even though the constant hover-on animations prevent me from actually browsing their site.. But the "modern webring" idea is really cool, I think.

At first, this game was about a turd on skis. Can't remember there being any poop trails, though.

Otto Ojala @ottoojala.com · 14/09/2026
Yeah, the more special your need, the more sense it probably makes to just learn to use something that's more capable. I tried Inkscape and Krita, too, but this was the first one that actually felt like it did things the way I wanted to, even if it is quite limited in features.

I'm always happy to see someone stop being active on social media. My exit plan is my website, and starting to write a blog there. It feels so good to not have any likes or comments there, just a link to email if someone wants to contact, and some anonymous interactive elements for keeping it fun.

Thanks! This looks like something that's good for layout design, too. I'm mostly on Mac, so I'll bookmark this and give it a go later. It's been one or two years years since I last used Adobe products, but most of the UI is still in my muscle memory, unfortunately...

I do almost zero refactoring, and it's okay as long as I only work on small, 1-2 month projects. But now, as I've been getting back to this one older project, I gotta admit it took me a while to figure out that a script called PoopTrail is where I handle grabbing objects.

I've been looking for an easy to use vector drawing app for making simple logos. This is probably the best one yet - I think it has Adobe-like anchor point handling since it feels so familiar to use, and it's really simple, too. vectorholic.com (free, ad-supported) Any other recommendations?
