Niki Fakhoori examines parental trauma, the effects of dementia, and living with ADHD, and C-PTSD through the lens of Pokémon Black & White's rival N and his relationship with his own father, Ghetsis. A strikingly open and honest read. You can find Niki's other work at nikifakhoori.com.

really appreciate, as always, the inclusion of Stop Caring on these CD roundups @otomeniki.bsky.social's essay pairs nicely with @lesbiankakyoin.bsky.social's Superjump debut, you should read both and then everything else on this list.

#inkvent2025 Day 25 is Myrrh the Merrier! This final ink is a very nice sheen and shimmer combo! I think the longer shape of the bottle made it hard to get shimmer on my short dip pen, but it's a pretty light blue that goes nicely with the blue ink and red sheen. A lovely end to a fun calendar!
A photo of a doodle done in teal ink. The ink ranges from a medium teal to very dark. There are scribbles, hatching, points, diamonds, music notes, and three different trees. "Day 25" is written in block letters, and "Myrrh the Merrier" is written in cursive.A photo of a doodle taken at an angle so the red sheen can more clearly be seen on top of the teal ink.

#inkvent2025 Day 24 is Antler! Here's one last pigment ink. I was surprised, because the ink went down as a very rich brown, but after it dried, it had become much lighter. Still, brown is a versatile ink color, so I like this inclusion. I just might pick up a pen for pigment inks after all!
A photo of a doodle of a deer with antlers done in brown ink. There are some scribbles around the deer, along with the words "Day 24 Antler."

#inkvent2025 Day 23 is Let it Snow! Now this is a chameleon ink with shimmer I can see, at least in person. I like the base turquoise color, but the shimmer is a bit similar, so it doesn't show up well in the photo. But in person I think it looks like... well, snow!
A photo of a doodle of a snowman in a top hat with some buttons done in turquoise ink. The snowman is surrounded by snow and it looks like it is trying to catch some with its stick arms. There is some blue shimmer barely visible on the snowman's top hat. To the right are the words "Day 23 Let it Snow."

#inkvent2025 Day 22 is Pineapple Spritz! This is a pigment chameleon ink, but I can't really make out the yellow shimmer on top of a yellow ink... It's a nice color, but it's very hard to read, even after letting it dry for a while. Unfortunately, it's not very practical, but I like the idea.

#inkvent2025 Day 21 is Chaos! It might seem like this is just the extreme sheen version of Day 2's Energy, but the base purple actually leans more red than Energy's. I'm not against having two similar inks like this in one year, but I did have to do a double-take when I first saw it!
A photo of a doodle of a left hand holding a sketchy orb done in reddish purple ink. There is a lot of green sheen across the hand and in the orb. On the right are the words "Day 21 Chaos."

#inkvent2025 Day 20 is Ambience! This is a nice pinkish orange with some pretty pink and gold shimmer. I like the brightness of the base color and the variety that comes from the shading, and the shimmer is a nice accent to it all. This is another fun one!
A photo of a doodle of some circles and diamonds connected by lines. The doodle is done in a salmon pink ink with gold and pink shimmer. In the center of the doodle are the words "Day 20 Ambience."

#inkvent2025 Day 19 is Overcast! I'm very pleased with the number and variety of standard inks this year! Overcast seems like it may be illegible when used in a small enough nib, but it has lovely shading and shows off its unique blue-green-gray color when a lot of ink is on the page. I like it!
A photo of a doodle of some distant houses, fir trees, and people separated by a path, with the sun in the upper right corner. The doodle is done in a gray ink with hints of blue and green and noticeable shading. At the top of the doodle are the words "Day 19 Overcast."

#inkvent2025 Day 18 is Laurel! I had to really use up the ink on my dip pen to start to see the base color under the sheen. It's reminiscent of Velvet Emerald, which was my favorite ink from a few years ago! But it can be tough to tell with how intense the red sheen is.
A photo of a doodle of various random shapes and lines. On the top of the page, the ink has an intense red sheen. Nearing the bottom, the blue of the ink is more noticeable. Between the shapes are the words "Day 18 Laurel."

#inkvent2025 Day 17 is Gala! This lovely gentle purple looks a bit more subdued in person than in the picture I took, but it's still highly legible. It reminds me of an older ink I used to love, so I'm happy to have a new alternative to it!
A photo of a doodle of a fox done in light purple ink. Beneath the fox are scribbles indicating grass, and around the fox are diamonds indicating stars. The ink displays a lot of shading. On the left are the words "Day Seventeen Gala."

#inkvent2025 Day 16 is Ruby Taffeta! Wow, I love this rich red with green-ish gold-ish shimmer! I had a lot of fun working with this ink, and I can think of a lot of projects this could be good for. It's classy, it's got pizzazz, and it's just a nice red overall. I'll be reaching for this again!

#inkvent2025 Day 15 is Frostbite! It's another deep blue with red sheen... but this one has shimmer! ...Kind of! Actually, I can barely see it in the bottle, and I can only somewhat see it on the page. It is nice, but it isn't going to be my blue of choice any time soon.
A photo of a doodle of the moon in a scribbly blue sky. The blue ranges from light to dark, and there is some red sheen in places where there is a lot of ink. There are words reading "Day Fifteen Frostbite."A photo of a doodle of the moon in a scribbly blue sky. #inkvent2025 Day 14 is Mittens! Here's another pigment ink, and like Carousel, it writes very smoothly and consistently. It's also another legible pink/magenta, which I always appreciate. It's simple, but it works!

#inktober2025 Day 13 is Molten Basalt! The bottle says it's a "standard" ink, but it's one with a lot of sheen. The ink itself ranges from pale to deep blue, but the sheen can make the deeper shade less visible. The sheen is an interesting reddish-gold, which was fun to see develop on the page.

#inktober2025 Day 12 is Bubbly! This ink is probably illegible in most pens, but with enough ink (and especially with the shimmer) it's striking! I really enjoyed using this with my dip pen. It's not an ink I'd want a full bottle of, but I'm very glad to have this small sample to work with.

#inkvent2025 Day 11 is Brrr!! I had a hard time making out the blue shimmer in this one, even in person. It's another pigment ink and it writes nicely, but not as smoothly as Carousel. Perhaps it's because of the shimmer? Still, it's a nice blue, and there's a tiny hint of sheen in some places, too.
A doodle of a rabbit wearing a polka dot scarf done in blue ink. There are some lines representing wind and the rabbit shivering, and some circles representing snow. On the right are the words "Day Eleven Brrr!" The word "Brrr!" is done in big, chunky lettering.

#inktober2025 Day 10 is Nostalgia! I thought this ink would be purple, and it kind of looks like it thanks to its red-ish/gold-ish shimmer, but without the shimmer it's actually a nice brown. In person, the shimmer is a lot more vibrant and noticeable than in the picture I took. This is a nice one!
A photo of a doodle of the Pokémon Chikorita done in a warm brown ink with hints of red and gold shimmer. There is a lot of shading in the linework and in the blobs of color surrounding Chikorita. The ink appears more maroon or purple where there's more shading and shimmer. To the right are words reading "Day Ten Nostalgia."

#inktober2025 Day 9 is Bittersweet! I quite like this shade of green. It's light and airy but still legible. I can see myself using this even during spring and summer. I'm also pleased at the number of standard inks so far. They've all been lovely and I wouldn't mind if there were still some more.

#inktober2025 Day 8 is Dream Catcher! I took the photo at an angle to show off just how extreme this "extreme sheen" ink really is. It's lovely when you get to see both the ink's shading and its sheen... Otherwise, a blue ink with red sheen isn't anything new (we saw similar for Day 1's ink!).

#inkvent2025 Day 7 is Blush! And it looks like another contender for my favorite has entered. I love when a pink ink doesn't have to lean into brown to be legible. This might seriously become my go-to pink, it's just that lovely!

#inkvent2025 Day 6 is Fir & Fog! The ink is a beautiful pine green, with shimmer that changes from a silvery-white color to a darker red depending on your angle. But the ink sometimes makes the shimmer look green, or even gold! I know I'll have a lot of fun writing and drawing with this ink.
A photo of a sketchy drawing of a pine tree covered in snow done in a light pine green color. There are some blobs of color surrounding the tree. #inkvent2025 Day 5 is Marie Rose! Wow, I love this color! Once it's dried, it leans orange-brown, but seems more yellow when you first put it onto the paper. It's more unique than most of the brown inks I've seen out there. This looks like an early contender for one of my favorites this year!

#inkvent2025 Day 4 is Smoky Tobacco! It's a scented ink, but I can't really smell it at all (depending on your preferences, this could be a positive). Still, it's a lovely, rich brown that doesn't seem to feather (at least on Tomoe River Paper), which is a typical issue with scented inks.

#inkvent2025 Day 3 is Carousel! This is a... pigment ink! And it stained my dip pen😅But wow, I love how bold this red is, and it writes very smoothly. Normally I love "shading" inks, but I'm very impressed with how consistent this ink goes on the page. ...Do I need to get a pen for pigment inks now?

#inkvent2025 Day 2 is Energy! I always welcome "plain" sheening ink, especially in this classic, versatile combo of purple with green sheen. It's like a toned-down alternative to last year's Good Tidings and its "extreme" sheen.

#inkvent2025 Day 1 is Celestial Skies! It's a beautiful blue (leaning teal depending on your lighting) with red sheen and some gold shimmer! On top of the ink, the shimmer can look a little green. I always enjoy when shimmer plays off the ink color like that.
