Supporters now seem keen on railroading through the Assisted Dying Bill because they argue it was filibustered in the House of Lords by a small group of opponents. The only problem is, that isn’t true. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I am sending the assisted dying bill back to the Lords – and this time, peers must do the right thing | Lauren Edwards
The will of the elected chamber – and a popular, compassionate piece of legislation – must not be frustrated again by a small minority of peers, says Labour MP for Rochester and Strood Lauren Edwards

'Domestic abuse won’t be rare if assisted dying is introduced: 1 in every 7 of those coming forward will likely be victims — mostly women over 60. How could their choice to die truly be free? How would we tell?' thecritic.co.uk/how-assisted...

How assisted suicide endangers older women | Fiona Mackenzie | The Critic Magazine
If passed, Lauren Edwards’ assisted dying Bill will deliver one of the largest rollouts of assisted death in the world. Combined with its lack of safeguards to protect domestic abuse victims…

All MPs voting on Friday MUST know this. A vote for the assisted death PMB is a vote that this Bill MUST become law. You don't get to choose if the Parliament Acts applies. Sharing constitutional law expert Philip Murray from the other place:

So refreshing to hear an MP talk about what mums actually want from policy! More choice, MORE time with young children. @swdevonrebecca.bsky.social in today's PMB debate on the Infants, Parents and Carers Bill. This Bill will be the world first to recognise the importance of the first 1001 days.

NO organisation which supports domestic or sexual abuse victims backs this Assisted Death Bill. Major women's orgs - neutral on the principle of AD- have warned the Bill can be 'a tool for femicide' and that the state will unwittingly involve itself in manslaughter:

Meanwhile domestic homicide expert @jmoncktonsmith.bsky.social warned the Edwards' Bill is simply "the worst thing, potentially, that we have ever done to domestic abuse victims"

Domestic abuse victims are at especial risk from Edwards' Bill. In the largest ever poll, the public want stronger protections than the Bill has. We warned parliament that 1 in 7 of those coming forward for lethal drugs would be a domestic abuse victim - meaning hundreds will die each year.

Women with eating disorders are given lethal drugs by drs around the world - 60+ that we know of. This abominable failure of vulnerable women will be allowed in Leadbeater's (now Edwards') Bill. Charities and advocates for those with eating disorders spoke out

The Assisted Death bill is revived: @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social will take the Bill under her name. Division ahead: this hastily drafted Bill was opposed by medical colleges and disability groups. And it had fierce criticism on its risk to women 🧵

Hoping someone who has come high in PMB ballot might consider a Bill to ensure universal & fair access to palliative care. Desmond Swayne , Lauren Edwards MP @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social , Dr Luke Evans @drlukeevans.org.uk It would be something that unites the whole community. #PalliativeCareForAll

All this from the largest poll yet on the Leadbeater assisted death Bill. Now, 568 people in @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social constituency signed our petition, urging their MP not to take on the failed assisted dying Bill.

In Rochester and Strood, assisted dying is at the bottom of the list of priorities voters want their MP to focus on. Only 7% put it in their top three priorities. Only 8% support bringing the Bill back and forcing it into law using the Parliament Acts. bsky.app/profile/othe...

The Leadbeater assisted dying PMB failed under scrutiny. But plans are afoot to revive it, and force it into law. Pressure is now being put on Labour MP @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social to put her name to the Bill. We turned out with her constituents to ask her to make a different choice.

to reviving this Private Member's Bill, which failed to make it through the House of Lords. The question is whether this Bill can ever be safe enough, whether local people have asked for it, and whether a law this serious should be pushed through using the Parliament Acts,

Bringing back the Bill means forcing it through, with little chance to fix the holes that sunk it in the Lords. We also asked 10,000 people their view on assisted death for eating disorders, the removal of coroners, no telling family, and more. They overwhelmingly reject these Bill features.

Now MPs placed high in the PMB ballot are coming under intense pressure to revive Leadbeater's Bill - which failed to get through the Lords in the limited sittings given to PMBs. Both @laurenedwardsmp.bsky.social & Andrew George MP may consider bringing back their Bill. But their constituents say:
