have I mentioned I'm home alone this week cause my mom, brother, and @valeriaasteria.bsky.social went to fuckin Iceland for 8 nights after I left for CCE lol our other sister had to come feed the cats while I was gone (and based on the bowls that were in the sink, helped my niece to our ice cream 😂)

Before I left for CCE, I whipped up this big pot of black beans; we were potlucking a little (Lizzy brought soup!) since we can't always make staff suite Unfortunately, while we did have a rice cooker, nobody brought rice 😅 Finally tonight i enjoyed my rice and beans, with fajita'd leftover chicken.

a plate of rice (with butter and sazón completa), stewed black beans (with onion, garlic, cilantro, cumin, thyme, and a little too much turmeric), and sliced chicken breast in onions and peppers (with adobo and chili powder)

PMC COVlD Update, Week of Aug 29, 2026 ▪️Outbreaks in 29 states/territories (see Alt) ▪️A projected 13th wave is under way ▪️1 in 95 Americans estimated actively infectious ▪️Peak anticipated around Labor Day THREAD 🧵(1/4)

The US has at least 29 states/territories with COVlD outbreaks. These include much of Hawai’i, Alaska, Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Guam, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine.
There are likely outbreaks in additional states. The summary statistic of 29 only includes counties with observed data, rather than estimated data. All of the data in Oregon are at least a week old, and while we do not count the state among the 29, we estimate there are likely outbreaks there as well, given proximity to WA, CA, and NV. Levels in some Texas counties are so high – on par with the national peak of BA.1 Omicron – that it drives up estimates for counties in neighboring states that lack CDC wastewater monitoring systems. Looking closely at the map, notice other instances of Very High counties in one state driving up estimates of an adjacent county in a neighboring state that lacks data. This shows a clear value of the county-level map over the CDC state map. The CDC applies the median level to the entire state. The PMC map recognizes that state boundaries are somewhat artificial with regard to the spread of infectious disease and instead offers localized estimates for counties that lack data based on what is happening in their region.

god i really need to go back to Dollywood now for real, she poured her love and spirit into this park; between the (surprisingly awesome) rides, it's a celebration of music, family, nature, conservation, craftsmanship, whimsy... the place genuinely connects you to Dolly on a way i never expected

A butterfly topiary with a placard quoting Dolly Parton: "Sometimes we wrap our imagination in a tight cocoon to protect its fragile nature from those who call us foolish and ridicule our aspirations. But every once in a while, our imagination pours out of that cocoon and a beautiful butterfly springs forth."

A rainbow of umbrellas hang over a concourse in Dollywood

A woodcarving statue of a craftsman and a boy under a wooden awning. An engraved wooded sign hangs off the front of the awning reading "If you work with your hands, your mind, and your heart... You are a craftsman"
The handpainted placard on the left post reads "WELCOME TO THE CRAFTS CAPITAL OF THE SMOKIES. WE AT DOLLYWOOD ARE PROUD TO BE A PRESERVER OF OUR SMOKY MOUNTAIN HAND-CRAFTED HERITAGE. ALL OF THE CRAFTSMEN CREATE EXCELLENCE OF QUALITY IN THE HEIRLOOMS, WE OFFER TO INSURE THAT THE RICH TRADITION OF CRAFTSMEN CONTINUES TO BE PRESERVED THROUGHOUT AMERICA."

A complex topiary of a woman sewing a quilt surrounded by butteflies. It's modeled after Dolly's mother.
