Something something perfect angle to bounce on the Penix

I love that his dialogue with Magneto is basically "listen I agree with everything you're saying. I don't feel bad about killing you though because I'll do it better"

For real. And the booth prices are insane. I would love to try tabling at an expo but my god it costs so much. Thank god for smaller markets. Makes me wonder how much the bosses of these things are making per year off of indie artists who have to pay $800 to get a booth.

010

Actually a highlight of the expo this year was trading one of my zines for stickers at a booth in artist alley. That’s what its all about, that was so awesome. Unfortunately corporates think events like that are all about how much money you can make at once.

010

It’s kind of depressing. The panel in the photo also involved a “game” using ai pictures which shows you how much they care about artists. I’ve made great connections with artists there, but all of that was through approaching them myself and talking. The company is only focused on money.

I’ve been going to fanexpo in my city for years now. The picture for the article is from my city. Its a celebrity panel they charged extra for on top of expo tickets. Nobody was happy about that and they did it again this year. There’s less and less focus on small artists and more push for money.

Every now and then I remember that Jean Grey knocked up a random woman in an Alaskan bar with her main piece's granddaughter and nine months later there was one survivor.

One day I’ll stop warming up with Jean Grey as Phoenix in space, but today is not that day! (Also hello BlueSky sorry I never post here)

Profit. If they narrow the options then people will have no choice so they get a monopoly on price. That’s why the new app is going to cost more. Because the switch gives them the opportunity to raise the price.

I don't have many hills I will die on, but one of them is that comic book companies have to stop ceding publishing territory to third parties and letting them taking over that space WHEN YOU COULD CONTROL IT YOURSELF! Yes, this is about Marvel turning its digital comics stuff over to WebToons.

619432

Its so sad to me. They really think that’s all there is to comics. They could be getting so much joy out of the process of learning if they knew it was worth it to try.

020

Why do we need a new app? The old one was fine. And why Webtoon?? I am a webtoon hater until I die, its crazy how an app originally for indie webcomics has sold out so hard and created such an insane culture of quantity over quality.

Another redraw from an old comic! This is a character I have up on my artfight. Weirdo scientist. I love her.

Rough redraw of a sketch from 2020. Feels like this was longer than 6 years ago but I guess it was only 6 years ago.

I love waiting until I'm stressed out of my mind and exhausted and then doing all the emails I've been putting off. Genuinely kind of helps the stress a bit. Because I have less to do.

Our feature artist/tutorial for today is this WONDERFUL & ESSENTIAL page on the placement of BODY FAT on figures by the talented @marinscos! REAL BODY SHAPE VARIETY is a part of what makes us all beautiful, and that should be reflected in our art. I LOVE this. #ART #anime #ARTIST

It's great because you talk to actual comic artists and they're like "do literally whatever works for you as long as it produces a comic". And they give you that advice for 100% free. There's specific advice too but there's no 100% correct way to make a comic.

All my zines have been handed out or claimed! An artist in artist alley is going to trade me the last zine for one of their prints. I’m hyped. Its been such an excellent con.

Orthrus @orthruscomics.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Handed out 3 zines today! Very very very good expo day.

090

Thank you!! I designed it before I had the intention of printing, but I'm happy with how it looks.

010

Got them stapled! I went to my brother's job and used their long reach stapler in exchange for bringing him chai and putting stickers on a bunch of files. Trading is so awesome.

Finally have the first edition printed out and now I need to write a second edition because I emailed Andy Weir and he told me INSANE information about the Eridian reproductive process.
