The thing is, we HAVE to participate in public comment processes IN ORDER to sue. So yeah, they might ignore us. And that makes your comment even more important. So comment on as many as you can. Tell your friends. Tell your grandma. Call your senator. Stay loud, friends.

"Commenting on public lands management plans won't make a difference-they're going to ignore us no matter what." They might ignore us. The number of attacks on the Roadless Rule, despite its popularity, is a great example. But we'll hold your hand when we say this: YOU SHOULD STILL COMMENT.

100% spot-on. We're seeing "the slow transfer of stewardship of millions of acres of publicly owned forests away from a federal agency with a national mandate and toward state capitals where the timber industry, ranching interests, and extractive economy hold substantially more political sway."

The thing is, they were caught blatantly misrepresenting the facts on this project and that immediately makes me doubt their 42 Divide project for the same reason. That project also targets mature/old-growth stands as well. The maps produced for both projects were sloppy and incomplete

"In 2024, an @opb.org and @propublica.org investigation found massive, old trees in the Blue and Gold logging area. The bureau’s policies prohibit logging trees greater than 40 inches in diameter or older than 175 years old. OPB and ProPublica found trees measuring over 80 inches."

While Blue and Gold is just one of many mature and old-growth timber sale projects currently proposed by the BLM, the Trump administration is working to revise the agency’s 2016 Resource Management Plans that govern the management of 2.5-million forested acres in western Oregon.

On Tuesday, plaintiffs Cascadia Wildlands, Oregon Wild, and Umpqua Watersheds filed for a temporary restraining order. However, yesterday’s ruling — a decision on the entirety of the lawsuit originally filed in September 2024 — superseded the request for a restraining order.

Unfortunately, the ruling didn't come quite fast enough to save some of the old-growth. Volunteers documented the logging of old-growth trees, some of which are estimated to be 250 years old and are required to be protected by the BLM’s own rules, while camping near the area.

How about some Friday good news? The US District Court ruled the Blue & Gold timber sale project violated a suite of bedrock laws and halted any further logging. Conservation organizations have opposed the 3,200-acre logging proposal, which contains many old-growth forest units, for over 6 years.
