Okay for more of this weird omegaverse au where you gotta introduce your omegas PROPERLY edward--

“Captain Blackbeard, Sir,” comes Fang’s respectful voice from the doorway. Ed ignores him, watching the smoke from his pipe drift to the ceiling, finding its way between any tiny gaps in the planks. He's been turning over the Izzy and Stede situation in his mind for ages, ever since Izzy let out a frustrated scream from the back of his throat and stormed out.

Fang clears his throat and tries again. “Sir, I just wanted to ask something about the… the omega situation.”

That has Ed bolting upright, nearly dropping his pipe from where it's loosely gripped in his hand, spilling smouldering tobacco ashes onto the rug. “Shit! Dickfuck! No!” He stomps a few times, exhaling thankfully as only a small singe mark appears from under his boots. “Okay, yeah, fuck, Fang, go ahead.”

Ed grabs the tobacco pouch from a side table, eyes mostly set on Fang, but man, now he has to pack his pipe again.

“So, uh, they never really got introduced properly, y’know, Sir? Not properly like you gotta do with omegas, so they're at each other's throats all the time! And it's stressing the crew out-”

Ed frowns, compressing the bowl of his pipe just right. He can feel the wrinkles appearing as he thinks. “Never had to do anything like that with Izzy before, mate, and we've had at least a few omegas on crew before. I think. You remember, right?” He sneaks a peek up at Fang, who's fretting, wringing his hands together, clear anxiety on his face. He looks like a charmingly anxious bear, like the ones they sometimes spy on beaches further North.

“With them it was clear Izzy was in charge though, but with Captain Bonnet, they're about on par-”

Snorting, Ed looks Fang directly in the eye, fumbling his matches in his hands. “Izzy should know better than anyone that Captain Bonnet-”

Fang grimaces. Ed stills, patient enough to let Fang hang himself on the rope he's giving him. “Ah, but, uhm, Captain Bonnet isn't the most… competent of sailors? Izzy sees you as the one and only? He doesn't, uhm, trust Captain Bonnet to lead?”

Yeah. That sounds about right. If only to relieve Fang’s stress, Ed melts back into his chair, finally getting the pipe lit again. Thick clouds of tobacco fill his mouth and lungs, a nice frisson of blankness from the warmth and intensity settling over him momentarily. Just enough to reset his mind a little.

“Yeah,” he says, eyes going back to the ceiling. “That sounds about right. Y’got any tips on how to properly get them less-” Ed pauses to gesture helplessly. “Y’know. Get them to get on better?”

Fang exhales and approaches Ed’s chair, pausing just outside of lunging range, the other side of a low table. Smart man. “Well, it's a little like introducing new ships cats to each other, if they don't get on you gotta start all over again.”

I adopt the shy ones- cats who are timid and need time to settle in, who will take one look at a human and cower and run. They're such rewarding cats once you've put in the time and energy.

Identification notes: it's may and still about 10-12 inches tall. Member of the carrot family, so has carrot shaped leaves (many heavily notched leaflets from a stem), with stems radiating from a central point. Splotched purple stem- young stems may be more green, older stems may be more purple.

Living out my best cottage core life sometimes involves the worst jobs- like cleaning up the haunted shack at the bottom of my garden

It is also four years and 5 days since poppy was so ill that I thought she might die, and I'm happy to say she's still here. Still potato shaped. Really doing really well and the vets are great at working with me ❤️

PLANTED!!!! is she in the perfect spot? Ehhhhhhh. BUT I gave her a long soak, a well mixed compost/soil mix, and a good watering. She'll get the morning sun every morning!

Rose planted next to a downpipe at the front of my house, in a patch of soil next to a concrete pathway. There are only 3 stems poking out the ground, and none have leaves yet.

Relapse is one helluva thing, Husk thinks blearily. His paws seem so far away. His entire body is liquid right now, wings spread across the slightly sticky casino floor, a few shades too bright to be blood. Who the fuck let this go so long without cleaning? Who the fuck let it turn from luxury to just another bullshit bar in hell?

Right. It's one helluva thing, and he's back to where he always ends up after gambling away all his money, broke and drunk and miserable. This time it wasn't his soul, locked up tight with Alastor, or even the beginnings of other people's shit, just any savings he'd begun to put aside for… what exactly? A shitty one bed rental somewhere close to a bar where he'd keep his head down, work and gamble and drink and sleep? Something more hopeful? Something he skirts around the edges of in his anger and misery?

It's not worth thinking about. He lives and eats and drinks at the hotel free of charge, and that's a lot for a sinner like him that always ends up back where he started, at the bottom of a bottle and penniless, the rush of the win completely dissipated. The worst part of it, Husk thinks, is that now he doesn’t even have Angel to go back to. Not that they were- they weren’t- it doesn’t matter.

Piano keys tinkle, tapping out the start to something sleazy, and Husk pulls himself upright, the room tipping in a nauseating slide. He squints hard at the performer on stage, and sighs to realise it’s a rabbit demon, alluring in voice, but ultimately not who Husk had been hoping to see on stage.

He’s been hoping every time he’s ended up here at the bar, watching the stage show, that he might just see Angel once more. He tries not to think about how every time, the weight of his own loneliness crushes him again as he stares at someone beautiful that isn't Angel.

Husk breathes out a long sigh and throws back the dregs of his whisky. Carefully pulling himself back up onto unsteady paws, he starts the search for the exit. Carpet patterns ripple before his eyes, the sounds of chiming slot machines pulling his attention. Without another dollar to his name right now, there's nothing he can do about it, but they beckon anyway, flashing lights and tumbling reels and the sweet sweet sound of the win. He lingers by a sinner's shoulder, only to watch with disappointment as they too run out of money, slumping forward. There's nothing here for Husk right now. It's not home with the yearning that tugs at his brain.

Finally, he stumbles out into the street.

“My dear fellow-” comes a familiar voice as he drags himself past the entrance to an alleyway.

“Fuck off, Alastor,” Husk mumbles, but pulls up short anyway.

His Overlord materialises out of the shadows, smile first, unnerving bastard that he is. “Slacking on duty, are we?”

“Agreed I could have the evening off with Vaggi,” Husk grunts, stuffing his paws into his pockets. Alastor seems sceptical, cocking his head as Husk begins to walk again, focusing hard on showing no weakness in front of the bastard, reining in his dragging feet, watching carefully for the cracks that’ll send him stumbling.

The radio demon falls into step beside Husk anyway. “You know that’s not what I mean.”

Right. The ‘duty’ hotel staff hold to be examples of the way Charlie wants demons to live. “Night off. Not on duty.” He’s deliberately being obtuse, he knows, but like Alastor, he gets the intricacies of wording in a deal. He might be down and out of the Overlord game, but he still knows his way around these power games. Husk doesn’t have to look up to see the quirk of lips that accompanies the hum Alastor gives him.
