pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 13/12/2024Canada is the legal property of the United States, and the “Canadian” government has never declared independence. Canada is U.S. territory and is as an autonomous region. We are not impacting Canadian sovereignty by taking Canada back, because “Canada” doesn’t exist. 180

pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 02/12/2024The Commercial Crew poster is out! With a history of the CCP spacecraft to date, I hope you all love it! Fox put his heart into this one. get it here: www.perigeeaero.com/shop/p/the-c... if you’re international and shipping sucks, get the digital: www.perigeeaero.com/shop/p/comme... 0245

pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 23/11/2024I get that, but they’ll have two years, easy. Mars is only 3-5 flights, and the HLS flights will take up most of the year. Given that Starship has proven out almost all of its core features; they can give proper time to the TPS. Much like the seals, I think it will get better fast. 100

pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 23/11/2024it probably will have a much more mature TPS overall. I expect it to be better and to keep improving. 120
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 23/11/2024I think that when we see 33’s TPS, it will be much more reliable owing to the fact that they will have both proper time with it and that it won’t be a mishmash of experiments flown like we’ve seen here. It won’t be missing the ablative underlayer, it won’t have tiles stripped off randomly, and 120
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 23/11/2024seal damage. There was TPS damage across that flap, though. That’s why only one specific area of the seal is hot, rather than it bleeding everywhere. 120
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 23/11/2024We’ve seen very marked improvements in TPS performance across each flight, even with each being very different from the last. A big example is the hot gas seals. On 29, they failed outright. On 30, their failure was much less pronounced- it still occurred, but less badly. On 31, there was no 120

pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Because I’ve so far seen things that support both sides of the argument. I don’t know if space elevators are inherently possible, but I don’t know enough to entirely rule them out either. I’ll come back when I have a degree in structural engineering. 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I don’t think the facts are inherently contradictory. But yes, we clearly have very different starting points here. Will think on this. 120
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I mean the biological urge for reproduction, to be crude. We can mitigate that. But I think that’s also still largely cultural and societal. 120
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I don’t think that’s exactly possible. Maybe it is. I don’t know enough to judge. 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I would submit that it’s probably possible. I don’t know how, but given that we’ve solved a lot of things, we could probably solve something like this. 000
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Not exactly. We’re still using more power. Just reducing the rate of depleting earth’s resources while doing it. 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Interesting. I wouldn’t bet on it continuing to do that, however. Like many things, that could be due to social factors that could change. Considering that population growth is somewhat inherently genetically built into human beings, I wouldn’t 100% bet on that continuing the exact same. 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I am not saying you are. I apologize for any insinuations. But I am not sure population growth is inherently self limiting. 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I’ll leave that up to debate with PHDs. I don’t know enough on that front. What I’m willing to bet is that there’s another way besides mass manufacture of chemically fuelled launch vehicles. 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Resource consumption of humanity certainly isn’t coming down soon! 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024It would not eliminate poverty. It would simply not force people into poverty by relying on a depleting earth. Again, if you want to go the population control route, that’s not fun either. 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Yes, it would require investment and would cause a jump in emissions. We can mitigate that, like we can mitigate industry. Industry keeps producing permanently and keeps draining, but there’s a “get off” point here at the end of it. 000
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024We can argue this. Again, I’d argue you’re assuming without a definite conclusion. Growth keeps happening. 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Are you implying that human growth is something in need of fixing? I don’t want to assume 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I don’t know how to say this but the inherent goal is to produce stuff off world so that it *doesn’t severely impact ecosystems on earth.* we can recoup a bunch of the fuel emissions, etc of space travel initially via fuel air capture, and making less emission-prone methods like elevators 300
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Unless you consider population control as a solution (which, no) generally the solution continues to be to keep going out 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Yes, we will continue to use resources. Recycling is not 100%. Ever. We will eventually need to go out. 000
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024so we don’t have to either force people to live in poverty or do fun little genocides every now and then 220

pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024I… here’s like 5 links to us slowly depleting resources. And yes, again, recycling, etc can stave it off longer, but that isn’t forever. www.interstem.us/2021/07/10/w.... www.popularmechanics.com/science/ener... frontiergroup.org/articles/fir...interstem.usWill the Earth ever run out of resources? Will the Earth ever run out of resources? 200
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Very cool, but we clearly have no clue where that asymptote is. And even then, the chances it’s limited by the amount of natural resources we have is around the same as it being a social factor 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Define profitably. Because again, there comes a point where you aren’t going to have that many resources left to exploit the other way, despite how much cheaper it would have been. We aren’t talking now. We do it now so we don’t have to scramble for it later. We can put it off. But why? 100
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024Not even that. Power requirements per capita increase too. I also think saying that the population is going to decrease is somewhat shortsighted because every time we think that it’s about wrong 110
pergy @orbitalperigee.bsky.social · 11/11/2024It is not. But it can be transformed to a degree which it is exceptionally annoying to reuse. Recycling isn’t ever 100%. Again, stop gap. 000
