Tell the PPS Board on 10/6: Pause School Closures!

In two weeks, the PPS School Board will unveil potential school closure and consolidation scenarios. A growing movement of educators and families have are asking for answers to basic questions, such as:

How will this impact class sizes?

Will closing and consolidating schools actually address declining enrollment? What else can be or should be done to grow enrollment and increase public school participation.

What money will be saved, if any, when a school is closed or consolidated? Who will be laid off? Who will be transferred?

Will any school closures/consolidations actually create equity across schools and neighborhoods? If so, how?

Educators and families agree that the status quo in too many of our schools is untenable. We believe that with the right support and investments, our schools can thrive. Closing and consolidating schools is not a plan, it's a reaction. In the words of a parent at a recent school board meeting, “A bad process will lead to bad outcomes.” Educators and families deserve a plan for investment, not a plan to close/consolidate.

The PPS School Board has a chance to show real leadership and vote to pause any vote on school closures and consolidations until educators and families have their answers addressed and can give real input. Join us on 10/6 to urge the Board to make the right choice.
