NEW: The Grand Illusion Cinema lives! The single-screen movie house that'd been in Seattle’s University District for more than 50 years before closing in January 2025 is coming home. It will be now taking over at the Varsity Theatre 📽️ My story @seattletimes.com: www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...

Every now and then I see myself referred to as an "AI Denier" and I want to be clear I acknowledge "AI" exists, it's just I think it's a massive energy drain, created from theft, implemented poorly for inappropriate tasks by loathsome tech executives who get hard at the idea of the rest of us dying

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
Nichole Hiltz
The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.
A building.

@treewarrior.bsky....
maybe because defending everything about a super small minority of the population is not worth losing to fascists

@jamieloftus.bsky.social, woman that you are. I admit I doubted how interested I would be in a book about hot dogs, but goddamn. Raw Dog is fantastic. Your narration of the audiobook makes it even better. I am now on the hunt for the most passable vegan dogs, so far Field Roast is the best.

I’ll take it personally then. Camp Miasma was the best, smartest movie I’ve seen all year, and I work in Big Movie so I watch a lot of them. God forbid a film be assessed with a queer/femme lens in mind. How many movies have I sat through that tells the same old stories for the same old white dudes?

fwiw, a printing press still can’t do that. gotta have a specialty foiling machine, and people still seek out specialty illumination all the same. so if i specialize in a rare craft, ai still can’t replace me and i will stay chuckling in my monestary

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched TSADACM - Amazing, showstopping, flawless, innovative, best of 2026 Austin Powers - Nostalgic and iconic but oof there are some jokes that DO NOT hold up Bouchra - Gorgeous and avant garde. Lesbian furries. Au Hasard Balthazar - A classic for a reason
Last four films watched on Letterboxd: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (5 stars), Austin Powers rewatch (3 stars), Bouchra (4 stars), Au Hasard Balthazar (4 stars)

Also best seen in an audience of queers mutually thirsting over Gillian Anderson. Jane tapped into the essence of today’s queer culture and its desires and stuffed it all into this masterpiece.

Jane Schoenbrun hits it out of the park once again with Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. I expected a love letter to campy slashers, and I got that. I didn’t expect a meditation on the queer experience of dissociating during sex and learning how to embrace your body and pleasure. Perfect film.

Kids need/deserve traumatic films. Films that show death or lasting consequences that aren't resolved almost instantly. Fear, anger, grief and frustration should be part of kids movies. Kids arent stupid, they feel big emotions just like adults, they deserve to see those experiences reflected back.

We are fine in Seattle in the way that we are happy to welcome more trans folks to the city. We are not fine in the way that we are an obscenely expensive city that needs more affordable homes for people. Been seeing a lot of local trans mutual aid requests as of late.

The sentences handed down today in Texas are a threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years for those not involved in even planning the protest?

Man I live in WA and looked up what Olympic National Park submitted. Any reference to climate change, endangered animals, or pretty much anything about the local Indigenous communities was flagged… But props to the Klondike Goldrush Center in Seattle for submitting nothing!

“Why don’t you use AI to come up with ideas and mockup things for your art?” Because that’s the most important part of creating art. If my imagination muscle atrophies because I let AI do the imagining, then when kind of artist am I??
