Post 1/3 Posting again because I am still absolutely furious. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has dismissed the backlash over the Gemma Collins DfE video as “outright snobbery” and a “killjoy attitude.” Let’s be crystal clear: parents aren’t being snobs. We are traumatized.

Post 1/3 The DfE's new Gemma Collins campaign is an insult to families living the reality of our broken SEND system. It pushes a glossy, light hearted, narrative of "tenacity" while schools actively fail neurodivergent kids. My daughter is 16, in profound autistic burnout, & studying GCSEs at home.

Eight UK police forces investigating Epstein’s network. Properties searched. Arrests made. RAF bases examined. The US - where most of it happened - released 3.5 million documents with a disclaimer saying anything implicating Trump is false. Zero arrests. Justice is happening. Just elsewhere.

Post 1/9 I work in a university. Students from China often have to be taught how plagiarism works - in their culture, repeating the expert voice is respectful, not dishonest. It made me think about America.

Post 1/5 This morning Trump ignored the War Powers Act deadline - the law requiring congressional approval to continue the Iran war. Shock. Then that sinking feeling.

King Charles has met Mugabe, Gaddafi, various autocrats. Unpleasant - but predictable. They understood diplomatic theatre. Trump doesn't. Most bad actors were civil to his face because they knew the rules. Trump might compliment his shoes then post something insulting on Truth Social before dessert!

AI Bias and the Asymmetry of Power Post 1/11 I've spent several days discussing current events with AI systems. I find it helps me organise my thoughts. What started as curious debate turned into something I couldn't ignore... #AI #ASBias #Tech

They say many women go under the radar - not realising they may be autistic themselves until one of their children goes through the assessment and diagnosis process. That was certainly a catalyst for greater self-reflection for me... and this Facebook memory from 2015 also adds food for thought! 🤣

On the subject of mental health support for kids. Fully expecting another response, but frankly the error is mine... I should have given her up as a lost cause much earlier.
Facebook conversation about mental health support for kids turns into a discussion about autism diagnosisFacebook chat where an explanation that neurodivergence diagnosis is not the same thing as mental health support falls on deaf earsFacebook chat where someone argues that a diagnosis is the same thing as support (and where they contine to conflate neurodivergence assessments with mental health support)

Really going to have to stop arguing with close-minded, ill-informed people on facebook: Autism isn't a mental health issue. It's a neurological disorder, and while autistic people can have mental health issues, it's not the same thing No, they don't give out a diagnosis of autism 'like sweets' 🙄

Conservatives yell “socialism” at every initiative designed to help people. Maybe you've heard the word a few times already today. But this is nothing more than an old scare tactic. A functioning government requires pooling resources for the common good. Let me explain.
