GitHub trick: to sort an issue search by 👍, add sort:reactions-+1-desc On VS Code, the top one is a 2015 request to change the workbench font: 3,783 👍. Works across GitHub, with any reaction. So react with 👍 instead of commenting "+1": only reactions count.

GitHub issues of microsoft/vscode, searched with is:issue state:open sort:reactions-+1-desc. First result: #519, "Allow to change the font size and font of the workbench", opened in 2015, 602 comments, 3,783 thumbs-up. Next: mouse shortcut customization, 1,926.

For all the data enthusiasts out there: since December 1, the start of the Advent of Open Source, we've had between 370 and 901 unique visitors per day and 663 to 1,530 page views per day. The top 3 countries are United States, Germany, and France.

Is there a better way to present it visually (more condensed), but also in terms of accessibility? I was thinking of simplifying it to: ``` > Here [they say] is where the adventure begins. ``` This would generate just a <blockquote> instead of two + a <p> in the middle.

~2 weeks before the big wave, I paid for X to see if it would improve visibility. Spoiler: it didn’t. Here’s a screenshot of what changed: bots! Meanwhile, on Mastodon and now Bluesky, with a similar follower count and the same content, I’m getting much more visibility and meaningful interactions!

Seeing this type of spam more often lately: a PR titled "Update README.\md" with: - A description packed with links to GitHub Discussions from another org - README changes that add the same links Here's a recent example: github.com/twbs/bootstr... Not entirely sure what the goal is with these PRs 🧵👇

Why? Because GitHub’s CSS rules check the href for these anchor tags behind the scenes to decide which image or link to display.

You can append "#gh-light-mode-only" or "#gh-dark-mode-only" to your image URLs in Markdown. This will ensure only one image is displayed, depending on whether the viewer is in light or dark mode.

Encountering issues with 'gh pr checkout {PR number}'? It could be due to a collision with a local 'patch-1' branch, the default name #GitHub assigns when users modify files directly in the interface. Just delete the local branch and re-run the command! 👌 #opensource

Running "gh pr checkout 40870" is rejected with a "refs/pull/40870/head -> patch-1 (non-fast-forward)" error

After creating a new repository through the GitHub interface, the default first commit message is "Initial commit". To rename this commit immediately, you can use "git rebase -i --root".
