At a time when trust in institutions is under pressure and democratic systems face growing challenges, these lessons matter more than ever. The next challenge is to build on the evidence, scale what works and raise the ambition for what comes next.

15 years of experience show that open government works. It can turn commitments into institutions, institutions into implementation, and implementation into changes that people can see and experience.
110
Open Government Partnership @opengovpartnership.org · 23/09/2026
🔹 Reforms can spread and scale. OGP Local has grown from 15 pioneer jurisdictions in 2016 to 137 members in 2026, while OGP facilitated 81 cross-country exchanges in 2025 alone.
100
Open Government Partnership @opengovpartnership.org · 23/09/2026
🔹 The impact reaches people. In 🇳🇬, #opengov reforms helped repatriate nearly 100 trafficked children. In 🇨🇴, procurement reforms opened school lunch contracts to women-led agricultural businesses. In 🇲🇽, a chatbot cut resident complaint response times in half.
100
Open Government Partnership @opengovpartnership.org · 23/09/2026
🔹Government and civil society collaboration makes a difference. In 62 of 67 countries with participation commitments, reforms achieved concrete outcomes. In 26 countries, there is evidence that participation contributed to improvements in policy outcomes.
111
Open Government Partnership @opengovpartnership.org · 23/09/2026
🔹 Reforms are becoming part of how governments work. 51 countries have embedded open government principles and practices in government or legal instruments, helping reforms endure through political change.

Open Government Partnership @opengovpartnership.org · 23/09/2026
🔹 Open government reforms are delivering concrete results. From stronger right to information laws and greater access to fiscal information to more open public contracting and participation in policymaking.
