PUMA
3D Printed Open Source MicroscopePUMA is backed up by a peer-reviewed paper in the
Journal of Microscopy and designed for direct eye
observations and ultra-portability with advanced
options for digital imaging, measurements and
computer control.
PUMA is an acronym for:
[P]ortable, [U]pgradeable, [M]odular, [A]ffordable.• Portable: PUMA is totally portable. Not only is it
small and lightweight but it does not require
a computer, smart phone, camera or PC monitor
to operate.
• Upgradeable and Modular: PUMA can used as
a simple but high quality monocular microscope
with an adjustable mirror for illumination,
all the way through a trinocular scope with full
Kohler illumination and an augmented reality unit
for a HUD of its integrated computer.
• Affordable and Open Source: All aspects of the
PUMA are open source and not monopolised
behind paywalls and patents. It is designed to be
built by anyone with access to 3D printing and uses
fixtures and fittings available from retail outlets.

Apresentação do Projeto
HistoEnder
Principais vantagens do HistoEnder:
• Economiza horas de trabalho manual, uma vez
que automatiza protocolos manuais de
longa duração;
• Aumenta a consistência das colorações entre
diferentes seções, melhorando a reprodutibilidade
experimental;
• Amplamente adaptável: desde esfregaços e cortes
de tecidos incluídos em parafina até cortes
congelados incluídos em OCT e amostras de tecidos
rígidos incluídos em PMMA;
• Para além da histologia: pode realizar
revestimentos por imersão (dip coating) para
laboratórios de ciência dos materiais e química.

HistoEnder
3D printer-based histological slide autostainerThe HistoEnder is based on a Cartesian FDM
3D printer, and works by moving a slide rack
loaded with microscope slides through different
solvent/staining jars, in a fully programmable
fashion. This makes the machine incredibly
versatile and able to perform several cytological/
histological staining jobs automatically.The HistoEnder:
• Saves hours of manual staining to researchers
who currently do such procedures by hand;
• Increases staining consistency between runs
thus increasing experimental reproducibility;
• Can be adapted to a variety of procedures
starting from smears, paraffin-embedded sections,
OCT-embedded cryosections and even
PMMA-embedded hard tissue samples;
• Can perform dip coatings for material science
and chemistry laboratories;

Beehive's #preprint is out! A simple electronics platform platform for building research tools and to teach programming.. preprints.scielo.org/index.php/sc... #openhardware #neuroskyence
preprints.scielo.org
BeeHive: A flexible open electronics platform for controlling research equipment and teaching electronics principles
In this manuscript we present BeeHive, a standardized, open-source hardware electronics ecosystem designed to address challenges faced by researchers when developing custom scientific equipment. Beehive is flexible and interoperable, since it is organised around minimal design rules. It consists of a microcontroller-based mainboard and function-specific Daughter Boards (DBs) for controlling actuators or reading sensors, allowing researchers to rapidly combine and repurpose components to build complex, specialized systems. This modular approach significantly reduces the time and cost associated with instrumentation development, promoting effective collaboration through shared, standardized solutions. The platform's versatility is demonstrated across several neuroscience applications, including a reward delivery system for head-fixed mice, a modular mouse maze, and an odour stimulator, alongside a dedicated Training DB and curriculum designed to teach electronics and MicroPython programming in an integrated, project-based manner. By embracing open-source principles for hardware and software, BeeHive lowers the barrier to entry for researchers in developing their own setups, fostering greater accessibility, reproducibility, and innovation. The system is also discipline agnostic, and could be used to create tools in different fields.
