List of atproto complaints:
- canonical HTTP reference is for some reason hosted on docs.bsky.app instead of an atproto domain
- the HTTP reference is spotty, missing certain parameters/responses (e.g. `com.atproto.repo.applyWrites.deleteResult` is listed as "object")
- Sync 1.1 is not actually standardized despite being rolled out to the network at large
- protocol proposals repo left to rot, no updates in forever
- no documentation even pointing out the existence of packages like `@atproto/dev-env` nor on how to actually use it (you need to dig into the code to figure that out)
- how to test parts of the network is unclear; there is https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto-interop-tests, and afaict there's no tests on like, does a PDS talk to the network correctly, for instance (there is also an old version of this repo in the monorepo which should probably be removed to avoid confusion)
- the reference PDS does not respect the atproto-proxy header
- bsky increasingly reliant on nonstandard extensions to ship features
- meanwhile they refuse to roll out features that do make use of the protocol like even a simple-ass pronoun textbox that they've already built out (https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/pull/4224) and just aren't pushing to their frontend
- prominently promoting fully centralized apps (only having twitch in live feature initially, now promoting germ network which only uses atproto for login, is closed source, has zero export or backup functionality, and isn't even cross-platform)
- the state of lexicons is unclear and the tooling around them is messy
- issues are extremely slow to be addressed (e.g. I commented on a CORS issue forever ago, still zero comment on it even: https://github.com/bluesky-social/atproto/issues/1732#issuecomment-2525365099)
- very little support for generic infrastructure (e.g. microcosm)
- lexicon spec is unclear as to what types can be at the top level
