A Tennessee appellate court has ruled that the killing of a woman may have been justifiable because she was trans. The court reversed a conviction, stating that the killer could have a new trial because the jury did not know the woman killed was trans. Trans panic in the modern era.

Killing of Woman May Have Been Justifiable Because She Was Trans, Tennessee Court Rules
The case is a bitter reminder of the ways LGBTQ people have had their identities weaponized by the courts in the past, most notoriously through a legal defense tactic known as gay or trans “panic.”

I've talked about this before, but it is very hard when you see how moral red lines are drawn, and the complete gutting of trans people's civil rights is entirely within an accepted norm and barely remarked upon even by many progressives.

Graham Linehan is calling the people who murdered a trans man in cold blood, heroes.
Screenshot of an X post by Graham Linehan (@Glinner) commenting, "It looks like these two are heroes who may have saved some kids".
Linehan quotes a post by Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) that reads: "Damn. According to a witness of the shooting homicide of the trans New York Times executive in Dublin, Calif., the elderly Chinese grandparents calmly walked away after the exec was dropped to the ground".
Below the text are two police mugshot photos side by side: on the left is an elderly Asian woman with short, wavy gray hair wearing a white shirt, and on the right is an elderly Asian man with short dark hair, slight facial stubble, and a white shirt.

It sounds assholish but I think the thought was genuine. Some believe that the time before we have enough compute/ FLOPS/ more Moore's law is the best time to do alignment/make people realize AI is possible and a threat.

If AI had not been developed, and then suddenly was with the compute we'll have in a few years everyone would be shocked by it suddenly generating full movies. It's because we saw it develop slow on little compute over many years we've become complacent. The alignment strategy failed.
