I did the illustrations in the OPB / Oregon Art Beat documentary 'Indie Comics City' that released at Rose City Comic Con a couple of weeks ago. Here are a selection of the illustrations. It was a lot of fun to play with some different styles of comics! Colors by @alliedrakeart.bsky.social !

Vietnamese character in a Miyazaki game?!!! This game is the whole reason I bought a Switch 2. Who else is gonna be playing?

Who is playing Marathon? It has wormed its way into my brain like nothing else in a really, really long time. Would love to have other folks to run with.

But it made me think of a note that Dan, one of the librarians at the Midland library wrote me after he read it recently. I think it's a great blurb in that it explains WHY he liked it and WHY it might be important to people.

A screenshot of a blurb written about Lizard Boy 2 that reads: "Great follow-up to the first one. I love how Tommy's reaction to the fear in his town is to find solidarity between marginalized monster groups and to create a space for them to tell their own stories. How do you respond to fear? With storytelling and art. Love it. So timely with ICE raids spreading terror in our immigrant communities."

So Lizard Boy 2 made Portland Monthly's top books of 2025 by Portland area authors. Cool, right?! We all want to be recognized and make these lists, right? We all want to be loved and recognized! Well, I'm going to look a gift horse in the mouth and complain! 🧵

Hey @tugboatcity.bsky.social I didn't get to watch the game vs DEN on Halloween, but I read a recap and watched a video of the last few minutes and stumbled across this perfect photograph. It's a goddamned Renaissance painting.

A Renaissance-painting-eque photograph of the Blazers vs Nuggets game from October 31st, 2025. Nikola Jokic is shocked in awe at a referee's call for a jump ball.

What video game do you consider perfect?

UPDATE: I don't know what happened, but I closed CSP and opened it up again, and it fixed itself? WTF?! Even though it's fixed, it's still gonna keep me up at night figuring out what caused it in the first place.

Screenshot of CSP story mode with correct margins. WHAT THE HELL?

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

Hey, can someone help me with something? I started thumbing a new project in CSP and there is like an obscene amount of space between pages of a spread in story mode instead of right next to each other. I haven't had this happen before. It's driving me crazy and I can't figure out why!

Clip Studio Paint screenshot of story mode with HUDE margins in between pages on a spread.

Another screenshot of Clip Studio Paint story mode where the pages have the normal size margins between them.

Yet another screenshot of a Clip Studio Paint test story where again, the margins between pages on a spread are GIANT. Like Grand Canyon size.

This whole thread reminded me of a political cartoon I did for the Asian Reporter a couple of years ago.

Political cartoon featuring Uncle Sam standing next to an Asian American family declaring them the model minority while preparing stabbing them in the back with a knife that says racism.

Happy Year if Snake. Here's an image I did when I was planning on doing annual postcards to send out to people *last cycle* it was Year of the Snake. But who has time for that EVERY YEAR. It's like Sufjan and his state albums.

An couple of an asian man and blonde woman are in a curio shop surrounded by artifacts od the Lunar New Year zodiac and the woman is scaring the man with a snake vase.

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

12.) 'Still play'... Like conceptually, I still play L5R 1st edition?

020

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

11.) Gotta be that trash panda game that Jason ran where we were like all playing street-racing raccoons? It was bananas.

130

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

10.) In the 90s CCG boom, I think L5R stood out as being the most innovative with telling a story through the CCG. Each expansion was like a new season where you saw events play out in cards, mechanics, and flavor text. Can I consider that tie-in fiction when it's how the story is presented?

120

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

9.) d10. But I also have (had? I seem to have lost them! 😢) an Eye of Sauron d6 set from the OG I.C.E version of the LotR CCG that was my favorite set of dice.

130

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

8.) That I have played? I think when I played an older, washed up Lady Bosoms trying to break back into adventuring by 'reinventing' herself as a black-leather wearing dark paladin. Kind of wanna turn it into a comic!!! Maybe it's something @mkreed.bsky.social and I can do.

130

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

7.) I don't have a 'smartest', but I love when games fold in mechanics and world-building in a really smart or thoughtful way. Like L5R. Ha ha.

110

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

6.) L5R 1st edition. COVID has been a real killer. Friends have moved away, relationships have grown distant... We had a game I was running remotely at the very beginning of COVID with my favorite people I was really excited for, but it was hard to keep it up. 😢

120

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

5.) L5R 1st edition. Why play anything else when the perfect one exists?

120

Jonathan Hill @oneofthejohns.bsky.social · 12/08/2023

Okay, I guess that's not true for 4.) the most recent game I bought was right before COVID. It was the updated L5R RPG after FFG took it over and my group gave it a try.
